I worked at a NAPA store several years ago while I was laid off from the Steel Mill. The filter tech/salesman had us go to the local Walmart and buy one oil filter of each brand they sell for a sb 350. He had a tool that openned up the filter like a can openner. He proceeded to open all of the filters (STP, Fram, AC/Delco etc). We rolled out the filter media from each filter and measured them all. Then we pulled a filter out of our stock and did the same thing. Unreal difference!!! Filter media was twice as long!! Also, the bypass valve in all of the Walmart filters was basicly a stamped steel spring. In the NAPA it was a coil spring with a valve and seat. At the time McGard was making the NAPA filters. I'm not sure that they didn't become Wix.
