What's the best wax to protect the paint while tracking your car

Z06er's:

A couple of questions:

For those of you who track your car with no bra or tons of blue tape and clear tape protectors -

1. What do you use to keep the paint reasonably slick to facilitate removal of tire debri scuff marks, flying liquids (oil, gas, trans fluid, etc..,)

2. What type of buffer do you use to polish your car?

Between 100 mph flying rocks, nuts, car parts, and high speed grit, tire marbles and the what not, my paint finish is getting thrashed. The flying liquids are also interesting, sutlely harsh on the paint and zero traction to boot if you are on the receiving end.

I bought the car to drive. So I don't care about the finish. When its too hideous, new paint time.

But before then, what can I use to help the clean up and removal?

Suggestions? I am getting tired of using Carnuba wax and polish in a complex multi step process to thrash the finish with gas and marbles.

whadya think?

No wax or polymer treatment is going to protect against rock chips but they will all do a reasonable job of protecting against the other things you mentioned for the most part.

Ask yourself how much time you want to spend applying it and how often do you want to apply it?

I use Zaino myself and I like it for the fact it lasts longer than most others, leaves absolutely no residue and virtually nothing sticks to the paint after it's been applied. The tradeoff is it costs more.

Opps,

Yes, nothing protects againist rock chips and other flying projectiles.

But aside from that, what about a one step cleaner wax that can be buffed off with a power buffer?

If so, what do you use and and what type of buffer? I switched this weekend to the Mr. Clean car wash system. Works great.

I am now in search of the industrial strength car wax. Any such animal out there?

I use Zymoil and/or Meguires the day before I track, then bra and carbon fiber sideview covers over the mirrors. Racers tape for wheel wells, etc.

The key is to put the tape on as late as possible, and then remove it ASAP after your last session. My racers tape generally comes off without residue if I do that. If you leave it on for the ride home or excessive sun baking, you can get a little residue, but no big deal, easily removed... Search posts by rpdallas and others for tips...

If I over wax... the tape falls off prematurely during the day... experiment to find the right balance of waxing and adhesion.

Don't buff your Z! Get Zaino.

For track protection I plan to get some of that clear carpet protector film, like movers use, with sticky on one side. I'll report back how it works.

Do the track officials let you keep a bra on while on the track? I didn't think they would.

I have been to many track events (sponsored by: BMW, PCA, Mustang, etc.) at many different tracks and they allowed car Bras. Just came back this last weekend from a BMW event at VIR and there were many car bras on. My buddy and I have new Z06's and we participated with car bras on and not even a question. The car wax question is a good one and I am all ears on this one!

Bra, mirror covers and racers tape in high risk areas. No wax or sealant will protect against rocks or debris.

How about aircraft wax? Any aviators out there? I know aviation operations utilize both clean and slick aircraft that contribute towards lower drag, less insect and foreign particulate matter accumulation. Any G-5 or Global Express or larger aircraft drivers/pilots on this site?
