Just like thread title, when's it necessary to install a hardened output shaft?
I'm soon to get heads/cam in the 440rw range, don't intend on dumping the clutch at 6,000rpms, and the hardest tire the car will probably ever see is a drag radial on a rare occassion. Am I going to have a problem with my output shaft to need to go to a hardened one?

From what I've been told you should be OK. Its the clutch dumping scenario that will be hard on the shaft. I've been told that I don't need to replace mine for normal street use, but when I take it to the track, I'll replace the shaft.

I recommend you go with a hardened output shaft. Drag radials are the worst tire for snapping output shafts. If you decide to track it at all its worth the money IMO.
