WOuld I be happy with a mild cam change?

I don't want anything too lumpy but am looking for more power. I'd like my air to work and a good idle. What kind of power would I be looking at with my SW longtubes and how much for parts and install?
Thanks,
Joe

Joe, could you be a little more specific with your question?
What are you trying to accomplish?
Do you have a specific Hp or torque goal you are shooting for?

Any additional input would help

Nothing really too heavy. Just a decent bang for my buck I suppose. I just want more power with a good idle. No real goal, just more than I have now

I've decided on an X1 cam from MTI. It's a 230/227 dur, 591/571 lift, and either a 112 or 114 lobe sep.

My cars not exactly a daily driver anymore, so I'm still debating the 112 or 114 spec. MTI indicated the 112 would push the tq/hp peaks about 500 rpms lower than the 114. Of course, the 114 would idle/low rpm better, but they assure me they can make the 112 work nicely. Not sure what I'm going to do.

Keep in mind, this cam does require some head work to accept dual springs (which they highly recommend using), so its not be the best choice for the budget minded.

You might check out other ones like MTI C1 or C2, thunderracing old man cam, or fastech F1 (this one might require dual springs, not sure though).

you could always upgrade your valvetrain to '02 specs... and that does include upgrading the valves and springs.

if you do, please provide before and after because i'd be curious how much the '02 cam-only is worth... i don't think anyone has done that yet... or at least posted it.

also, here's something for you to read:

http://www.corvettemagazine.com/2001...cam/campg1.asp

whatever change you make, i'd think you'd have to at least change the springs and possibly the valves... the '02 cam is suppose to be a mild upgrade to the '01s so you'd think anything greater (yet milder than most aggressive cams), would also benefit from the upgraded valve/springs and save any complications in the future.

That's a great cam but I suspect a little too aggresive and 'lopey' for what Joe has in mind.

Joe, have you done other bolt ons or air filter mods?

Yeah, I have stainless works longtubes, and a Blackwing. I also had it tuned with LS1 edit on a dyno.

If you are sure ou want to go into the engine a little, then I suspect a stage II cam might be the next step up for you. I would check out several of our vendors and maybe ask them what cam you might safely upgrade to without changing heads.
It really just depends on where your trying to get to and how much $$$ you want to spend.

thats true Mike, thats why I also recommended other grinds.

For example, a guy here in Houston has an 02 Z06, MTI C1 cam (222/222dur 566/566lift 112 ls), asp pulley, flp lt's no cats, blackwing, ls1edit and makes 400/390 sae. It idles fine.

good luck cruzmisl

I'm just happy I'm finally installing my stainless works lt's, which have been in my closet for like 5 months awaiting D day (I mean cam day)
