WTF... clutch and tranny is schytzo!

Basically one day the car will drive and shift like a hot knife through butter, but the next it might be notchy as hell.

What's causing this? I have AMSOIL syn ATF in the car and that made it super slick after I put it in. Now it goes back and forth. I'm posting b/c yesterday was a "bad" day. The car shifted like butt.

It always goes in gear (just roughly sometimes) and has never kicked out, just notchy and "clinky".

Also, if I sit at a light with the clutch in and rev the motor, then try to go the release point becomes super high. What's with that? I remember reading that with the c5 clutch design the centrifical force w/ no load screws the hydraulics all up and they need a few seconds to re-adjust.

Any ideas on all this... smooth shifting is key to a pleasurable driving experience for me.

Sounds like my Jeep Wrangler. One day it's butter, the next rocks.

Need to be rebleed? Just a thought.

Hmmm, maybe when your clutch acts up it doesn't fully disengage so your tranny will not shift smooth. The times that it does shift smooth your clutch is behaving. See if there is any correlation to the heat of the engine.

I get this same issue as well and its driving me nuts at times. Its actually going in to the dealer next week to have this and other annoyances taken care of before the warranty expires.

Jeff... I have a full extended warranty from the re-ring (thanks to my bitching and letter writing to GM) PM me or let me know what they find. I hear many say it can be notchy just beacuse that's the nature of the car and a tranny designed to hold all the power. Also, I hear that the clutch "acts up" when you rev it in place like that.

It only acts up when I'm holding it in reving... like at a light next to a viper or something =). After I drive it for a second then all is well with the clutch.

This sure sounds like air in the system. It may not have been properly bleed. It is very similiar to having a spongy brake pedal. The longer you apply pressure the closer to the floor it gets.

Mine makes the noise when idling in neutral, not reving just idling. If you leave it sit you will get a very disting thunk coming from the clutch area in a sporadic pattern. It goes away when the clutch pedal is pressed. This is making me think there is something amiss in the throwout bearing.

I will let you know what happens.
