XM install, How?

What does it take to put XM into an 02 ZO6? What is the best way to do this and keep the stock Delco Bose head unit? I think I have seen a sticky about using the CD changer inputs in the stock head unit but don't find it now.

In my personal opinion, I wouldn't use XM. They have commercials on 4 of their most popular channels. If I wanted commercials I would stick with free broadcast radio, and if not I would hook my IPod up to the car...which is what I did.
I cancelled my XM subscription because of the commercials. They asked why I was cancelling and I told them, their answer, and I paraphrase, Clearchannel Communications owns a significant portion of the XM stock and that gives them some control over programming. They, CC, ordered XM to add commercials to increase cash flow.....thus the commercials........kinda like HBO or Skinamax having commercials.....waste of cash IMO

Ok, I did a little research and I guess what I need is the GM10-AUX and the PIE-COR harness. Is this all I'll need? And What kind of XM controller do I need? How much of the XM can be controled by the stock head unit?

I bought a Roady II when the price fell to next to nothing. I place the antenna on the dash with a bit of velcro. Tune to one of the available frequencies that it broadcasts on and you are set. All selections are made on the Roady II unit which is quite small. The reason the price dropped was it was replaced by a newer version. They should be available on ebay.

I don't want to do the FM modulation thing. I want to pick up the digital signal.

I have XM and Serius and enjoy both. If I could only have one, I'd keep the XM.

You are correct, more & more commercials are being added and I dropped mine also. It was not like that when I first got mine a couple of years ago. They also ask me why I cancelled
and I told them too much talking and the commericals and some stations played the same songs over and over again.

I had XM in both my vettes, I got a 3 days sample of Sirius and was blown away by how much better it was. I am a fan of the concept of Satellite radio, and having raved about how great XM was I am astounded by how much better Sirius is. Go get Sirius

I'm hooked on Deep Tracks (channel 40) on XM. One of the reasons is that one of my favorite DJ's, Earle Bailey, from Philadelphia is on it. Does Sirius have a similar channel? I have Sirius in the Z but usually listen to he CD changer.

BTW, Deep Tracks has no commercials. When I listen to Howard Stern sometimes on Sirius, they don't have commercials, but taped plugs galore from Howard. Isn't that the same as commercials?

As far as XM in the vette. Google a search for "adding XM to a gm car" and you will find some information.

I too have XM... and I too am getting tired of the commercials and the tendancy for them to play repeat songs... but I love the comedy for road trips and opie/anthony for the morning. I love the system and jam to that all the time.

As for install... you're on the right track... you nied the cor-har (factory cd changer harness) and the PIE GM aux 10. You pull the rt side rocer trim and footwell panel. Then find the two factory plugs. Then you hook up the cor-har to it and then hookup the gm aux-10 to the cor-har.

Doing this you can listen to your xm or ipod through the "aux" channel on the factory head unit. To get it to work initially you must unplug the cor-har then re-plug w/ the car's power on so it can "read" it.

As for running all the wires.... I tried to get it all up under the dash but there's just no way... if you look down the rocer there is a wire running on the floor and flexible holders allready there, this is where the factory harness would go in a coupe/vert. I run the harness down along in the factory location. Then I pulled the lower b-pillar trim and used some hardcore double-sided tape to tape the gm-aux 10 box to the frame area there, then I covered it up w/ the trim. I tried to stuff the rest of the changer harness under there too, but it didn't work. So... I put the excess out under the trim and it sits behind the seat and you cannot see it. Then I run the rca jacks up to the MyFi unit. If you want me to take pics lemme know.

Here's how it looks in the car.

I too believe XM can't compare to Sirius. Check out this thread. http://z06vette.com/forums/showthrea...ghlight=sirius Shows my install in the ashtray area... The only smokin in my sled is from the tires...

PS. I DO use the FM modulation, but if you don't run the CD player in the trunk (which I do) you can use that to feed digital...

If you click my sig, and scoll down the page that opens when you do, you'll see my XM install. Like MWKYZER, it's where the ash tray used to be. I smoke in my Z all the time (I'm a Cigar Afficionado), but only with the window open and everything goes outside the car. Never leave ash or stubs in a car, unless you *really* want to stink it up something awful.

As for commercials on XM, the stations I listen to don't have 'em so it's no big deal. But I don't listen to the music these kids listen to, nowadays. All that heavy bass just gives me a headache. I stick with the classics, Deep Tracks, Top Tracks, Fred, Lucy, and yes, Sinatra.

That being said, I'd bought XM stock when it was $3.85 and I dumped it all at around $25, and bought Sirius with most of the proceeds (about a year ago). I'd be very happy if everyone who read this thread went out and bought Sirius radios (and tell your friends, and buy some for your family, too). The Sirius stock is pretty much stuck at around $4 and I'd like to see a decent run up sometime (anytime) soon!
