The passing of Ernie King
This was posted by Bill Wilson on the Corvette Forum. I was with Ernie at the Z06 Fest on friday, I'm shocked , and my heart goes out to the King family.
" I am sadden to announce to each of you the news concerning the passing of Ernie King. Ernie died in his sleep last night at his hotel in Bowling Green, KY while attending the ZO6 Fest being held this weekend at the Corvette Museum. Ernie was a long time drag racer out of Rockville, MD and raced his Blue C5 Corvette in the East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. Ernie also attended the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Corvette Nationals at Carolina Dragway and Richmond Dragway. He also participated in the Mid-Atlantic Corvette Challenge series in Richmond, VA. Ernie and his wife Barb had recently moved to the Conway, South Carolina, in the Myrtle Beach area and had just recently purchased a 2009 ZO6. Ernie was a very good friend, neighbor and competitor. I will miss seeing Ernie on nearly a daily basis and racing with him whenever we had the opportunity to do so. "
Ernie was a true gentleman and it was an honor and privilege knowing him.
Condolences to his wife and family and may God watch over him.
I didn't know Ernie very well but I had met him on a few occasions over the years and I agree 100%.
I'm still shocked by it all, we were just posting back and forth on the CF not too long ago.
WTF??? Is this true? We just wished this gentleman a Happy Birthday within the last few days.... This is crazy. This is totally unfair. I am in shock. I am rather speechless at the moment......

I only knew Ernie from last year's fest but he made an impression on me that I will carry forever. One of the nicest men I have ever known, willing to help anyone. I know he touched the lives of many.
Prayers for the family of Ernie, he has left a big void......
We are all truly saddened by this news, Ernie was a good friend, a great drag racer, and true Corvette Enthusiast. Needless to say, this puts a very sour note on the end of the 2009 Z06 Fest. All those that attended spent the weekend enjoying Ernies's company, and his knowledge.
Out thoughts go out to his family in this time of grief.

OMG, this is unbelievable. I'm in shock. We were all enjoying his company just a few days ago at the Fest. What a great guy.
My condolences to the King family.
God's speed Ernie, you are truly one of the good guys.

WOW! I followed Ernie in the WART run on thur. and talked w/ him throughout the fest. Such a good man. This is so profound for me because he passed the same day (9-12) as my father exactly 2 years ago, who also left the same way, peacefully in his sleep. I believe that God only takes the best in this way! Ernie, please tell my Dad hello for me.
My prayers and condolences to the family and all of you that knew him even better than I in the forums. See ya later Ernie!
I was standing trackside Friday morning, watching Ernie line up cars in the burnout box. He was having such a fun time! He was working with Jimbo helping him get in car down in the 10's.
