With that attitude buddy you will always land on your feet. If the market is tough, try offering to work for a week for free. If they aren't impressed with you after a week, they don't have to pay you. If you work as diligently as you sound, you will be hired and collecting your first check. Best of luck. Setting goals is the best way to move ahead.

Have you ever though of working in some restaurants doing magic tricks? They usually don't pay anything (which you might run into because your 14) but you can make tips. Probably 100 - 300 depending on the night and how good you are at talking to people. - This is a business that I am trying to start and you might make a good guinea pig. If you are interested PM me.

Go get 'em vettefan. Dreams (like wanting a Z06) are part of what keep you focused and motivated. Glad to see you are motivated as a young dude. I was too.

Keep that positive attitude no matter what. I have a feeling you'll be a success whatever you do.

Best Regards,

Now what

Try some Civil engineering/Land surveying Firms- they always need help.
You will most likely start out in filing/plan room or possibly out in field.

Save up some money and buy a powerwasher (1400psi) about 1000 bucks. Make some business cards/Fliers. And start making the rounds in the neighborhoods. Charge $$/per Square Foot. If need be hook it up to the water and give them a demonstration of how good the driveway/house will look when you get done with it.

You will make back your 1000 very quickly, and then you can say you own your own business .

If it gets busy, hire some of your friends to do the work for you while you sale from house to house making appointments. Then if profit is great buy another Powerwasher with the profits.

*Used to do this when I was going to school part time and made very good money. Did a few commerical projects to (fuddruckers , Chevrons , etc.*

Make it a goal to work for yourself and be your own boss. No need to bust your ass so that someone else can drive a Z06 .

Cheers
G

If you like golf, try to get a prt time job as a Caddy. You'll meet all kinds of people and also pick up some good pointers on your game, as you make some money.

What color Vette do you want?

Damn fine work ethic young man, I'm glad to see the playstation generation isn't completely a bunch of lazy obese couch potatoes that have ADD and are on prozac!

I got my first job at 13, delivering newspapers...needless to say I didn't make much and it was hard labor, but it taught me the value of a dollar. I'm not talking about the stereotypical kid riding his bike throwing papers, I'm talking about a big 'ol sack of 160 papers full of coupon books and flyers and anything else that could make them heavy....furthermore this was in Minnesota in the winter time (think a warm day was 20 degrees above zero). I got my first "real" job on my 15th birthday, as 15 was the legal age to have a part time, taxable source of income.

Anyways, I concur with the advice given to you from the other members....don't be afraid to be your own boss, remember this is the land of opportunity! Good luck and don't lose sight of your goal!

On a side note, I can't imagine how cool it would be to have a ZO6 in high school...

If your parents own a unincorporated business, work for them, here is why. (In most States) They will have to pay no Social Security or Medicare Tax and normally no State unemployment or disability taxes. (applies to children ages 7 and up)

And you can make up to $7750 tax free (2003 TY)

Arrange to be paid $7,750 for your work. They will issue you a W-2.

Because you are under 18, they will not pay any of the taxes shown above.

For you, the first $4750 earned by each child in not taxed (std deduction 2003 TY) The next $3000 can be sheltered via a IRA.

If parents joint income is over $100K, they can't claim either the HOPE or Lifetime learning Credits, so this can be a big plus for them too.

If they are in the 35% tax bracket they themselves just saved $2715 in Federal taxes alone. Included State Tax and medicare savings and they save close to $3000.00 in Federal Tax.

May want to consider saving for College & retirement before buying a "want" item. I started a paper route at 12 and worked various jobs and saved 50% or more of my take home till I got to College. It can be done if you really want.

Oh, better not get started on money management.

Joe

You sound like me at 14. At 18 i paid cash for my 98 C5 convertible. All it takes is hard work

Look into the stock market and start paper tradeing. Day tradeing is a good way to make some $$$

Just dont get greedy. You will end up like me I lost 57K at 20 years old investing everything i had in feeder cattle
