Looking.

Looking for a job that is. I came back to school to finish my degree and now there are very few jobs out there. I take off tomorrow on a trip to Texas and many spots along the way, job hunting. Currently, looking in the oil/gas/energy industry, but willing to do pretty much anything.

I have been getting the "hurry up and wait" speech much too often now. I don't want to sound bitter, I am not. However, I am getting frustrated. I am sending out resumes again like crazy and following them up with phone calls and visits when possible. I know that most of the resumes I send unsolicited will be trashed, but it is worth a try.

Any recommendation or advice is extremely welcome at this point. I have a resume on my website which is linked by my sig pic.

Thanks for the help and allowing me to vent some frustrations.

Have you tried Haliburton (KBR) ? Big brother to Kellog Brown & Root ? Keep plugging away, don't give up, it will come along when you least expect it.

Tony, best of luck to ya, bro!!

At the risk of being an optimist, I think the economy is just a hogs breath away from turning around and opening up the job market again.
Hang tough and you'll be in the sadle before you know it

wow I can imagine your frustration! In my industry it's common to use a recruiter/headhunter, have you gone that route?

web sites like monster.com are good.

to be honest, the BEST positions are never advertised-it's all networking and "word of mouth". I know in my company (pharmaceutical) a position becomes open and by the time it gets to HR for posting on monster.com they are already accepting resumes.

I would tell as many people (like you are here!) as you can that you are looking, and also perhaps open up to relocation if needed.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks to all for the positive thoughts and helpful insights.

I have been using (rather exhausting) headhunters in couple of industries and some of my previous connections from earlier days of 'tall cotton'. All so far are fruitless.

I have resigned my self to keep looking and plugging away while taking a lesser job here in Laramie. I will probably be selling the Vette soon and getting a more practical vehicle. The reason is...I will be starting a family soon, like a couple of months ago. With the current job market and increasing dependents the Vette is rather selfish and impractical in my current situation. Once the 'tall cotton' returns the C6 Vette ZO6 will be in my sights. If not I will purchase an '01 and mod the H-E-double-hockey-stick out of it.

Until then I will still be participating in the boards and enjoying the great comaraderie I have experienced here.

Tony, I feel real bad that you may have to give up the Z in the near future but I do understand. Family comes first, bro... I think that's the one thing we all agree on here

Keep us informed of how things turn out and I will continue to keep my eyes peeled for any promising positions for you
