Help "Reduced Engine Power"

I have a 2001 Z06 with a H/C package, Kooks headers and 4:10 gears. Last Friday night while racing my car, it went into a reduced engine power mode immediately following my shift to second gear. The codes are PCM10 P1221H and TCS 1278H. This happened 3 times that night. I drove the car home and the condition did not re-appear until this morning, while driving to work. I was able to reset it and continued my drive to work as normal. When I started my car after getting out of work, the "reduced Engine Power" was displaying with my engine light on again. The traction control indicated in the off mode without me touching the button. When I attempted to turn the Traction control on, it had no effect. I believe the TCS 1227 Engine code has something to do with traction control. Not sure why and I am not sure why the P1221H code was activated. There was nothing recently done to the car. Last fall is when the gears were replaced. The H/C package and exhaust was done 2 years ago. Any help would be much appreciated. Just for your info., the car ran a 11.36 @ 124.4 mph at a 1.70 60 ft. about 2 months ago.

You have two unrelated (or at least, they should be) problems:

P1221 TP Sensors 1, 2 Performance
C1227 LR Excessive Wheel Speed Variation

The P1221 is the cause of your reduced engine power. "TP" stands for "Throttle Position". The Corvette throttle is servo-controlled fly-by-wire, not a mechanical cable like other cars. With a bad TPS, the PCM can't tell the how far open the throttle is.

The 1227 code is the cause of your Traction Control failure. The underlying problem is fairly obvious from the description itself. You have a bad connection someplace or you need a wheel speed sensor.

The only thing these failures might just possibly have in common is if they share a Ground someplace, or maybe run together in a common wire bundle. A bad common Ground, or a chafed wiring harness, where both these circuits are effected, would explain both failures happening at the same time.

Thanks for the help. I am ordering a new TPS. The traction control code is 1278 not 1227. I miss typed in my original post. I only hope these two problems are not related. I well let you know if the new TPS works.

Good news for you, then!

C1278 TCS Temporarily Inhibited By PCM

Pretty much says it all!

Did you resolve your problem? I am having the exact problem and codes intermittently. I have brought the car into two dealers with the codes active and in "Reduced Power". The service dept. admit that that there is a problem but they have been unable to find it even though I left the car there for a couple of days. The Tech 2 does not appear to identify the component. One dealer has had the car six times including today and they want to "fiddle with it" to try to find the problem. Any help is appreciated.

Have you changed the throttle body? Any time I have heard of the "reduced engine power" code it has been throttle body related.

Update

I am still having the problems listed in my post. I replaced the TPS and didn't make a difference. I am now getting another code after replacing the TPS. I am getting a PCM 1220H C. I read on another forum to replace the "Throttle Actuation Control" module. Well, I replaced it and still no difference. I am getting a PCM 1220H C, PCM 1221H C, and TCS 1278H C codes. Sorry I don't have an answer for you yet. If your dealer finds anything out, please let me know. I am missing out on a good part of the summer. This sucks!!

Oh, I have not changed the Throttle body. Who knows, maybe it's the throttle motor.

Quick update, I finally broke down and took the car to the dealer. They reflashed the computer and then found one of my wires rubbing agains a pulley. This is what was giving me some strange codes. Since my tuner is local, he retuned my car by downloading my tune from a saved file. Everything seems to be working now. Thank God!!!

Congrats. Here is one item all should check on a regular basis. Any codes traction control related, reduced engine power, sevice vehicle soon etc. are due to the ZO6 's suffering from corroded grounds G101 and G102. These ground plugs are the grounds for the BCM, PCM and related sensors. If these are corroded you will be just cruising along and all of a sudden the dash light up like a christmas tree. DIC messages as stated above.
Here is a link to the grounds with pics. Check these often. People are spending $400-800 at the dealer just because of corrosion.
