Re: need help!! missfire!!

I hope it's the coil pack. The fact that it's been tuned could present some problems. One could be a lean condition which could burn a hole in the piston. This has happened to some w/ improper tunes. Good luck Did you check the wire 1st.

First thing, disconnect the plug wire and confirm spark. If you have spark then take out the plug and look at it. If it's missing it will more than likely be oil fouled.

"Did you check the wire 1st."

Ditto, mine started intermittent missing-worried big time-checked all the plug wires and 3rd from front on left side had worked its way loose but not off the spark plug-- pushed it firmly back on and car has run fine for last 3 years!

Re: need help!! missfire!!

Also I forgot to mention have you checked the actual spark plug itself. Not just for fouling, I had a cracked plug, probably from the install, which was my problem some years ago. It was slight and drove me crazy till we changed out the plug and saw the crack.

Re: need help!! missfire!!

Mine wound up to be a cracked spark plug itself. Try ramping up your car HARD and fast to 6000 rpms, does it sputter around 4000-4500 rpms as if you hit the rev limiter? That might be a sign of a crack in spark plug arc-ing under high load demand.

$10.00-$15.00 fix. Start there with a new spark plug, if that dont work, then change the wire itself. Then if THAT dont work, maybe it is the coil pack....

Let us know!

Re: need help!! missfire!!

Glad you got it! Now that you know the wire was melted, try wrapping them up in some cool sox or put some heat shield around the wire area that is predominant to touch the header pipes. I get that too. So I wrapped mine with heat shield.

Glad you found it!

Re: need help!! missfire!!

How often do you miss shifts? Go for fourth and grab second? Tell the truth. That motor might have just seen 9 grand and now you have some bent pushrods/valves... Knew a guy with a transam that had misfire issues attributed to over revving his. Just a thought.
