New Dyno Numbers

Pat took the Blue Meanie back to the dyno today after the Corsa Ti race Exhaust. I don't know if the extreme tow-in hurt our numbers today or not.

Three runs comparison's

1. Bone Stock 95 Oct done a couple of months ago Blue
2. Stock with the Exhaust 91 Oct Green
3. Exhaust with "McRat" programing 91 Oct Red

WOW Pat,
You are my hero... I was just telling someone a couple weeks ago that any day now we are going to see McRat as a vendor on this site doing custom programming... so when your ready.. I'll bring you my car!

Just to be clear (from another post)
You did this dyno with stock airbox, stock car, just the exhaust and programming?

This isn't Pat. But yes. Stock air box, stock air cleaner. Car is stock with exception of the exhuast and tuning. I sold the blackwing

I need just some cold air to take that bad boy back to the track looking for 11's

Where are you guys getting your dyno's done. I like the fact that they retained your previous pulls, and did the compare (or did you do that?).

Brothers Performance in Corona. We did the compare. But they save them on there computer and give a complete disk every time. So far we have 20 and the cars only couple of months old

That's impressive for just a Corsa Ti cat-back and tuning!!

But it shows that without tuning, the cat-back isn't gonna do a lot for anybody.

Thanks for the data!

What are they charging for the dyno runs, if you don't mind me asking? I'm paying 65 for 3 pulls at a shop in Orange County, and they don't save my data. I do get a/f information, though, at no extra cost -- I've seen some clowns trying to charge extra for that!

To be honest I don't know what the normal price is. We get a frequent dyno price. They don't have wide band 02's

Here is a link if you want to check it out. That was our SS in that pic. It was a Dyno whore as well

Here are some runs MCRat did with the BW before the exhaust. Seems like the exhaust added 5 HP.

WA 2 FST, I kinda sorta disagree with your tuning statement because I have seen just the opposite...As you can see my sig that I achieved good dyno numbers without touching a thing and no codes of any kind, so there is a little hope for just simple bolt-ons...
I prefer to go to the track with my California 91 Octane, 30 PSI in the stock F1's, roll up to the line and get it on...To me it is more of a real world scenario since I do most of my racing, very carefully on the street...My MPH tells me if I'm making power...

Greg,

I am not doubting your results at all. However, _most_ of these cars need some tweaking to get the power gains you achieved. I would think an exhaust upgrade wouldn't require as much as an induction upgrade, but even a simple airbox many times causes the fuel trims to get out of whack.

The Corsa made it biggest gains in the midrange. Look at the torque curves. But it made gains from 2000 up, so much for the "you need backpressure" guys. I was surprised how good the STOCK Z06 exhaust is. Not much to be gained at all!!!

My guess is that I lost 2-4 HP with my 1/2" rear toe-in. I forgot to set it back.

Does tuning make HP? Yes and no. All I am changing is:

Rev limiter.
-1% fuel at WOT
24 deg timing
Fans on early
Defeat IAT retard

Most of the gains COME FROM THE IAT and FANS! Both can be done without tuning. I just think LS1Edit is easier, and more "dealer-friendly" than fan switches and timing trickers.

The stock GM fuel/spark curve is PRETTY good. Not much to be gained, I tried.
