new Z06 owner, help with PCM code

been surfing around on here until I finally found my perfect car and that time finally came when I found my 02 eb in Iowa. Just got the car home and cleaned up when yesterday I threw a PCM 0420 check engine. The car is all stock so that ruled out another post I saw that mentioned LT's and this code. Does anyone know what the fix is for this code? She is going to the dealer on Monday for a list of repairs anyway but those involve things I can't fix like alignment. If its an o2 sensor or somthung, I can do those no problem.
Also different problem but wanted to save posts, does anyone know how to correct a rubbing steering wheel? As I turn the wheel it makes this rubbing and whining sound in the car almost like a boot is dry or something. Strangest thing and its just annoying. Any ideas?

Thanks a million for any help and this board is fantastic!

Re: new Z06 owner, help with PCM code

0420 is a Catalytic Converter diagnostic code. It means the PCM isn't seening enough reduction in down-stream O2 on the post-Cat O2 sensor. Could be the O2 sensor, could be the Cat.

The squeeky steering wheel is caused by the steering wheel position sensor, which is mounted on the steering column (the sensor is a round disk and the column goes through the center) right behind the steering wheel. You *might* be able to reach it by taking the bezels off the column, but my recollection of when I had the same problem with mine was that it looked like the steering wheel had to come off to get any lubricant in to where it would matter...

If your car doesn't already have the Column Lock recall installed, have your Dealer do this, and at the same time they can lubricate this area and it won't cost you anything extra (since the Column Lock is a safety recall there is no statute of limitations on it's being a freebie) since they have to take it all apart to get at the Column Lock latch plate anyway.

Re: new Z06 owner, help with PCM code

So it sounds like i'll have to have the dealer test both the cat and the sensor huh? And since i dont know all the maintence history of the car, do i just call the dealer to see if the recall has been done on the car? Well in that case i hope its the cat as i can bump the header install up on the priority list then
Thanks for the advice
