Traction control system

Hello fellow mustang slayers... I've been getting a "check engine" light for my traction control system. I've replaced the traction control module and cleared the code via a friend who is a chevy tech. He brought the hand held computer over and reset my computer. We also replaced the module with a brand new one. I took the car out and I was racing on the "track" at about 120 I droped into 4th and put it to the floor and I got the check engine warning and the car went into "safe mode" ie.. it won't go over 60 mph. So then my buddy came back out and he said a couple screws appeared to have losened up and he tightened them. Low and behold , it did it again. I pulled out of a gas station and tached it out and right when I got to 3rd it went back into safe mode 60 mph max speed. I was wondering if anyone else is or has had this problem. I want to keep this car, but if I can't drive it the way it was designed to be driven then there is no point in keeping it. Has anyone had this problem or is there a way to override the traction control system? I can handle the car, I mean I like having the traction control system to help save me from myself if I needed it, but I could live without it knowing that I could easily swap ends if I wasn't careful with the throttle. I just wish I had it tonight,, I always end up wasting some 350 z's on the way home from work on Friday nights. Thank to all for any insight.

Re: Traction control system

Not really sure what the problem is but getting rid of the car seems a little drastic.
I'd take it into a dealership where they can do a proper job of analyzing the computer to find out what's wrong.

That's just me....

Mike

Re: Traction control system

There is a way to turn off AH/TC via the button on the center console, but not sure if that will fix your problem. To turn the system off press the TC button. You should see a message on the DIC saying the system is off. If you press and hold the button for about five seconds, the system will go into Competition Mode (or Comp mode) which turns off TC but leaves AH on, however with more aggressive intervention points.

AH/TC faults are fairly common. By my read of similar posts, many problems seem to occur on wheel speed sensors (part of the ABS and AH/TC systems).

You can call up the fault codes on the DIC, or by using the GM tech hand held computer. The fault code would give you a better idea of what portion of the system has failed and what to do to fix it. The service manual has corrective action procedures listed for every fault code the system has. Pretty handy reference.

Good luck sorting your problem out.

Re: Traction control system

I am new to Corvettes and just purchased a 04 ZO6 for autocross with no owners manuel (which I have ordered). I have been just turning off the TC button. What is AH? and is the competition mode what I should be using for Autocross?

IIRC, you're a pretty serious AutoXer ...

For the C5 Z06 Standard default "all on" is ASR on and Active Handling on.
ASR reduces throttle in wheel-spin conditions
AH applies brake at appropriate corner to correct a high-yaw condition (orientation of car vs orientation of wheels).
Pushing button and releasing disables ASR and AH (all off). Pushing button and holding ~ 5 seconds brings up "Competition Mode" in which ASR is disabled but AH remains enabled.
I would think, for AutoX, you would want "all off" if you want to throw the rear around on purpose. YMMV ...

Re: Traction control system

I guess the main question is...What codes are coming up?

Knowing the codes, we can stear you to the correct answer.
