troubleshooting code B0026 (airbag code)

I just bought an 01 Z06. Airbag light has been on since I bought it. Pulled the code B0026 (left front/driver frontal deployment loop (stage 1) circuit). What is the best way to begin troubleshooting this problem? Car has a cam and headers that was installed by the previous owner, if that helps any.

thanks
Joe

If the column lock recall was done and the column lock plate was removed. I suppose that when they took all of it apart they could have left the Air Bag connector loose?

Some more thoughts

If the steering wheel was turned while the linkage or column was removed you could have broken the wiring to the air bag on the steering wheel.

I had this happen to me when I removed the steering shaft to get the headers in and some how turned the steerign wheel a couple of times and broke that wiring loop to the air bag.

Thanks for the replies guys. Steve, when you broke the wiring loop (clock spring?) , how hard was it to replace, and how much $$ was the part?

Very good question.
Maybe one of the mods thought an air bag was slang for a supercharger.

Soon after it happened I had the Z at the dealer for some body work (ran over a street sign) and they fixed the air bag problem under warranty, so I am not sure how hard or costly the fix is.
