Went to run MID OH this past wknd, first lap and BAM! check engine light comes on, then all of a sudden I am not getting any power at higher rpm's! Yeh, now I run 3rd gear pretty much most of that track, and my vette would NOT go past 50mph in 3rd:-? I pit, I pull the codes, nothing other than history ones, I am stumped.

There were several race guys there and I had one of them check my motor out (he's a corvette tech specialist and runs NASA race groups as well)...We change out the alternator, battery and fuel filter, still happening:mah: Basically, the car runs-I just can't STOMP on it without it bogging down like I am hitting the rev limiter.

Any ideas?

I have an extended warranty, gotta find a chevy dealership in my new area and she's going in

you better fix it fast girlie... or you will have to bring that snake to the fest...

good luck with that..

how is ind ?

yeh no codes.

it had everyone stumped at the track, of course I was slightly pissed because I was now labeled as 'the slow vette' and my point finger got a lot of use:lol:

a vette friend of mine just emailed me and suggested I check out the throttle position sensor/

might be 'carless'..viper is in the paint shop :)

I had the very same problem with my 1987 Buick Grand National.. It wound up being a dirty/bad fuel injector.

Good luck

Check the driver's side fuel rail wiring harness. There is a bracket at the back of the head that likes to chafe through the wires and short ou the system. I have mine wraped in rubber to prevent it from eveyr happening again.

or

P0300: PCM determines that an emission type misfire present or determines that catalyst damaging misfire is present.
Potential causes are numerous, but include:
- restricted fuel filter
- running out of fuel
- excessive vibration from another source
A scan tool may be able to tell what cylinder is misfiring.

As for causes, they are numerous, shooting from the hip here based on things that could have gone wrong.
- fouled plugs
- loose plugs wires
- all of the above for MAP problem
- restricted fuel filter
- stock fuel injector (I had one stick open - noted by significantly reduced gas mileage and one bank of fuel trim significantly different from the other side)

- mechanical failure inside the motor

Leslie,
I can't remember if you did the headers on your car??
If you do have headers, do you have HotSocks/Cool Socks on the wires??
It doesn't take much to 'blow a hole' thru even 8.5mm wires without them. Even if you have them I'd still do a visual and see if any of the wires are laying on a header pipe!
I had a similar experience at the dragstrip with the car launching great and falling down, back when!

Like you, No codes, etc :mah:

I have found posting these kind of questions in corvettemechanic.com can be EXTREMELY helpful...

Give it a shot.

MD:cheers:

PS Maybe it was your guardian angel keeping you from getting hurt or your car from getting wrecked... I have learned no to get mad when something like this happens. Things DO happen for a reason...

geez, you guys are GOOD! I am in TX now, so I havn't been able to get my vette in the shop:(

yeh I have headers and yeh I have hot soxs, but that's an idea to see if something is laying on a header

That's a good check list also, I am going to print out this thread. Interesting about the fuel, I think that's why we decided to change out the filter and checked the plugs/wires...but one of the plugs could be failing.

Nomad, I DO believe things happen for a reason, I am glad I have been able to do HPDE's for 3 yrs now and have driven home safely every event
