AFR 205cc Heads VS. LS6 Stage II heads

Ok... does anyone have any information as to how the AFR heads flow in comparison to a set of LS6 Stage II heads done by a reputable shop.

For example if you took the AFR heads and ported and polished them, 3 angel valve job, and did the same to the LS6 heads and used the same size valves in both heads, which ones would give the best performance? Flow and velocity.

From the DYNO reports that I have read. The AFR's produce much better Torque numbers than LS6 ported heads.

In the next couple of weeks I should be able to report the flow differences between the AFR 225's vs the MTI stage 3 heads , but I realize that is not what you're asking.

I dont think thats going to be a fair comprasion. AFR heads out of the box are 2400 with upgraded springs. the whole port job deal is 1600. That makes it cost 4000-1000(for your LS6 heads) 3000 total. While LS6 stage II heads would cost you 1800 max on exchange.

The AFR 205's flow the same (and sometimes more) than the 'reputable Stage 2 LS6 heads' and do so with a smaller intake runner size. That means better low-end torque, slightly better idle, slightly better throttle response, etc. Dyno runs have confirmed they make more torque most of the time, and the other qualities are a tried and true 'fact'. Always look for the most flow with the smallest intake runner.

All this stems from intake velocity. You want the highest intake velocity that you can get to keep the fuel suspended in the air while having the highest flow numbers possible.

If I had it to do over again, I'd go with LS6 stageII!!
205's are pretty rough out of the box and expensive!!
All the numbers people throw around are crap without the whole story!!
You aren't going to slap a pair of 205's on a stock 03 Z and get a 40 HP gain!!
After you mill them to get back to stock CR, clean the CNC machining marks out of the runners and port match gaskets etc MAYBE?
That runs up the purchase price considerably!!

I'm not really looking to compare the price difference, just performance difference. Then I will look at price...

That's a difficult question to answer...better torque numbers ? The only way to confirm which has more power/torque would be to install each set on the same car with the same mods and run on the same dyno to compare.

That's the only way to accurately confirm which heads have more power/torque...otherwise, it's nothing more than a guess.

Surely one of our tuner vendors will or have done this... How about one of the vendors that ports their own heads...
