Quanitfy "best" for us. The most power with least lope? Monster lope? Are you wanting a package deal that comes with valve springs and all the trimmings or just the cam itself? Price important?

Godspeed of LG posted a nice cam-only package that is on special for $22xx that includes a cam, springs, tuning and installation. Emissions really (to me) depends on your exhaust. However I've had friends with no cats on their cars with stage 2 H/C that have passed emissions tests. Lucky for them they didn't look under the car, huh.

Is the dispute with the IL emissions or a disagreement with a friend? Just curious if you took the car i for an emission test or not.

Also, what are the specs on your cam?

Check out the MMT M2 cam. Their cam only car is the fastest Vette in the country. 10.87 I believe.

Rob&Kumar, while the MMT cam and the Cartek cam you refer to both make awesome power, neither will likely pass emissions. Notice, the author is looking for the best cam that will pass emissions.

The best cam only for a stock LS6 is probably the LS6 cam.

Remember that the General has more guidelines and restrictions to worry about than power when they select a cam for a vehicle, warranty, driveability for a complete manual tranny novice. So the ZO6 cam is probably not the best cam for someone with any manual tranny experience at all, as well as having the ability to pass emissions. Certainly as with any mass produced vehicle there is a lot of power left on the table, evidenced by all the aftermarket interest in power parts. I will concede there are always trade-offs, a positive here begets a negative over there. We learn to live with the negatives for more power, most of the time.

I think the MTI B1 would be a good emissions friendly cam for a Z06 (221/221 .558/.558 on 114). You may call Thunder Racing and ask them about the TR 224 also (224/224 .563/.563 on 114) you may be able to get that one to pass emissions as well. To be honest I dont know if they will be worth the gain through manifolds though, do you have LTs?

I asked the same question just a little while ago and didn't get one answer. I figured must be a gray area for people. I was interested in putting a cam in my car and then I found out that we might get emissions testing in our area.

I have lost interest in a cam but now I'm beginning to like the sound of S/Cing because I can pick up an easy 100 HP, have good driveability and pass emissions. I haven't heard too many bad things about forced induction except the heat issue with the Mag but it looks like the intercooler should solve that.

Now the decision, which S/C to get :-?

Hope I didn't high-jack the thread.

Somewhere between 221 & 224 duration on 114 LSA is going to be close to the cutoff for passing emissions with a NORMAL everyday tune.

As far as a SC goes I would steer clear of the "Roots" style blower like the Mag. Look into centrifugal like Vortech. I honestly do not have many good things to say about forced induction on LS6 motors. I mean you will probably be fine with no more than 6# of boost, but any more is a threat. My one word of advice if you do go FI is to get a GOOD TUNE, it is very very important

I know for a fact the TR 224 has passed emissions in California, which is by far the strictest on emissions in the country. In order to pass you need cats (obviously) and a good tune. If it can pass smog in CA, it shouldn't have a problem in IL.

From what I've seen, the TR cam makes quite a bit more power than the B1, and idles just as well.
