I just tried a product I have not used before. Turtle Wax spray on bug and tar remover. You are supposed to use it after you wash the car, but I used it during washing and went over the area with a soapy rag after removing the bugs. This stuff did a great job. It sprays on thick (doesn't run) and the bugs came off with very little effort. The best bug and tar remover I have ever used.

I use it also for removing the adhesive left under the SCCA contingency stickers. It will remove some wax layers depending on how hard you rub but it also buffs up to a good shine.
I use it after rinsing the car so I don't grind the grit into the clear coat. Apply the Bug and Tar and then let it sit a few minutes to dissolve the bugs, tar, gum, and burnt rubber and cone marks from the rocker panels (the cone marks come from my co-drivers but never from me). I then wash the car with Zymol Wash and dry it off. The areas where I used the Tutle Wax Bug &Tar will buff to a high luster wax like shine. but I always rewax once a month anyways so the layers of wax stay built up.
DJWorm- My procedure is pretty much the same as yours, The Zaino holds up well to the remover and she gets a new coat frequently. This stuff doesn't seem to strip the wax coat off as bad as other stuff I've used. One caveat though, If you get it on black trim, (like the brake ducts) it takes a little elbow grease to get off, but at least it doesn't stain.
Learned a little trick while at the museum, they use sun screen (yes sun screen) to remove bugs and tar. Supposedly the higher the uv protection the better it works.
Have you ever used the Claybar from zaino? it works pretty good. If your telling me the turtle wax spray is better I'll make a switch. There are so many bugs where i live and I keep going through claybars like they were candy.
Z6 does a pretty good job at removing the bugs. I dont know about tar but I imagine it will. We have plenty of bugs in various parts of the state here. When ever I drive to Orlando or parts of the turnpike and I-95, you can be certain the nose gets a good dose of bug splats.
I know this will sound funny, but the best bug, grime and tar remover is Downey. Yes the stuff you put in the dryer with your cloths. Wet a sheet a rub over the area and it's gone. DON"T use on windshield at it will become so slick your wiper won't work proberly.
I use Z-6 for touch up (like driving to a car show) but this stuff really cuts through the bug guts much better than Z-6. It is a little hard to buff out though, so I get off the bugs and then Z-6 and buff out. Works good for touching up an already clean car. I use the wet method when the car is dirty. I use the clay bar too, but it is a PITA for regular bug removal IMHO. Never heard the sunscreen and Downey ideas but it is amazing the number of uses for different products. There is even a website wacky uses devoted to this subject.

A buddy of mine swears by the Turtle Wax Bug Remover swipes that come in a plastic jug.
Yes, Andy Roderick (NCM staff member) informed us of the sun screen tip...BUT, warned against getting any in your eyes! He had some on his forehead and sweat ran down his face. Ended up in Emergency and left with an eye patch on for several days!
