Vararam Intake

Has anybody had any experience with the Vararam Intake. They are out of Houston...West Coast Corvette says that it is the best intake out there, better than their Vortex Induction System. They are claiming 35 hp's...I would appreciate some input since I just had the ZO6 dyno'd in stock form...I'm just dying to put some kind of intake on it and re dyno...If I must be the guinea pig, then so be it...

Greg,

If you have a chance, click on the search feature for this Forum and use Vararam as a keyword. You'll get a wealth of info on it. 35hp?, not on an unmodified head/cam packaged car, in my opinion.

What did he say to convince you? Was he able get a Z06 for some test data?

If you call vararam and speak to Patrick, the owner, he will give you lots of good info. My common sense tells me that outside cold air intake is the best air for an internal combustion motor and feed back from GeorgeP and Cemo both attribute to my gut feelings. Vararam makes some bold claims, but if you discount those claims 50%, they equal other systems for sale here. I tried to speak with another vendor/owner here and he didn't even call me back. His girl promised he would call back as she had NO clue to any answers to a question I had. I had my credit card in habd to order and I feel if they aren't there before the sale, why would they be there afterwards! This is just my $.02 worth but it is from an honest experiance!!!! Bill

I would agree that it should be on par with what's available in a cold air kit.

I did talk to Patrick and am hoping to see some stock to Vararam performance numbers so I can add another winning product to our line. As the manufacturer, I was hoping he'd have gotten that type of feedback from Z owners by now, so we could all see the numbers.

Patrick happened to answer the phone...He explained that his original intention was to sell them to Chevrolet and went thru some extensive testing for Chevy, and in the end they told him it would take a year to put them into production, so he declined and made them himself...He said that his personal Vette went from 12.4 to 11.9 and from 116 to over 120...He also said that he GUARANTEES us to pick up 3.5 mph or he will refund your money...The system comes with a K&N now...He said in about 30 more days he will be coming out with his own element that will guarantee another 1 mph...All these things convinced me...I had talked to Halltech on the phone once and went down to his shop the same day...The person there was not rude but was not hospitable at all and told me to go the website for info...Plus, I was not impressed with the itty bitty they had although I know most small fabricators are set up the same way in a small industrial park...

This looks like a good system. I had a Halltech TRIC and never had problems with water ingestion but I know that some others with one of the cold air intakes have. The following is from the Vararam web site:

"No true ram air system to date can keep water out completely as its job is to ram all things, not just air, into your intake system. All we can do is to try and dissipate what it does get in to the system w/ out negating the performance enhancement of the system.
You may drill the water trough holes larger if you wish, as these are only there to help dissipate some of the water. Larger holes may effect performance, but they will also allow more water to drain out of the system. If water enters your intake engine damage may occur. "

Is this system anymore likely to ingest water than say the Halltech T1? I have virtually ruled out water ingestion as a problem with the T1. It doesn't look so clean cut with the Vararam.

That makes sense especially if GM was looking at adding it to the car.

Patrick owns a 2002 Z06. That is what he made it for. He has had it on his car for about 10months.

Brutus,

Cool!

Do you happen to know if it was run at the same track and all conditions equal, etc...? 120 mph trap speedwith just the intake on an 02 with no tuning or other mods is impressive if it can be repeated over and over.

If his guarantee is +3.5 or your money back, it's a no lose situation.

He actual ran a 121 mph trap. He told me that was his best. He also said that he has run a personal best of 11.77et . That was with his race filter on the Vararam. No other mods. He ran that time around August/Sept. He doesn't have the race filter ready for production yet, I think that is why there is no dyno yet. I ordered about a month ago. The reason it is taking so long is that the unit on his car and the one that WestCost Corvettes has is a pre-production unit. He said the insides are not smooth and he change the intake a little. Corvettes of Houston has a pre-production unit. They wanted to use me as a test mule because my 02' Z is still stock. I didn't do it because Patrick told me that he would have to hand make the Race Air filter because it won't fit into the pre-prduction unit and the new one is better. He also told me he was thinking about an et and trap guarantee. I think he only is going to offer the trap speed guarantee because he has got a lot of complaints about wheel spin (with automatic C5s). At first I thought his et's were a little low for and intake only but after some though. I ran a best on 12.23 the first time out in my car STOCK, with a head wind. J-rod was at the track at the same time and got kicked off for running two 11.9's STOCK. With a good driver 11.77 seem very posible. The mph impressed me the most. I told him that when I get mine I will test it for him and tell eveyone my results, good or bad!

Dyno - I almost forgot. GeorgeP got 7rwhp over a blackwing with a MAG . That sold me buy it self! I think he has the race filter. Only a few people has the race filter. He hasn't got enough in to sell to eveyone right now.
