Just thought I would report my first run on the dragstrip since having 21st CMC install an I/C Mag with blower cam. I was told at tech inspection that if I ran below a 12.0 they would kick me off the track. So my first run I let off at half track (notice 1/8 mph and 1/4 mph are same) and still ran a 12.5, which was better than I ever got stock. Then the second run I ran full out and turned 11.5 @ 123 mph. To say the least I was very happy. Also this run was on the stock clutch which was starting to slip in fourth gear. So I think there is still room for improvement.

David,
Looks like you are having some fun, I think you can improve that 60 ft. time by 2 tenths which would be approx. 3 tenths
for the total run.

Nice numbers, too fast!!! It seems that those Nittos helped your run without adding any extra stresses! I thought I heard a lot "whining" here in Florida; was that you or the Blue Angels?
I think a 1.79 60' time on a radial with an engine that makes _that_ much power is darn good. If I could run that, I'd be in the 10s.
Please share your launch technique.

Thanks for posting your results, David ! I have no experience drag racing, but a couple weeks ago I went to e town (Corvette Challenge) as a spectator, and saw some of our guys run 2.0 and 1.9 60's on stock FI's with just bolt ons and in AngryTiTTy case, bone stock. I think if you get the Nittos hot enough and get the right launch your 60 ft times will drop quite a bit. I wont run my car until next season but I'll try my best and hope to hit some nice low/mid 11's, too. By then I may have a blower cam and a better tune.
Believe it or not I barely even did a burnout. Just dusted the tires off and the track was stickly. The launch was about 2500 rpm. I definately think the tires are capable of 1.5 sec 60ft with a good burnout.
The available traction threshold will go away much quicker on a 500+rwhp car compared to a stock one. If you get a 1.5x on R2s, everyone will be very impressed.
I think the key to that 60ft time was good track prep, and I basically left smoothly and not agressively.(i.e. not trying so hard) More like agressive street launch than drag launch. On my first run I launched harder and got wheel spin, so on the second run I thought I was launching gentle and still got a 1.7.
A 1.5 60' time would be VERY good on just about any "street" tire, which the RII arguably is (I use em on the street and wouldn't buy anything else). For example, RobZ can do 1.4's, he is a very skilled driver, and he's on ET streets. I think.
I was suprised to see how few guys were able to get into the 11's that day at e town - I think its ALL about the driver. From what I saw, (and talking with Don Benson and the guys), if you dont get the launch right and your shifts right, it doesnt matter how much power you have. You may run 12's, but not 11's. I now know I need to learn the best technique for my car and practice.
