Pistons/rods

Forged for a boosted LS6 stock block with stock crank? Is this a possible set up, I have a spare LS6 that has been crack tested after it dropped a valve, I would like to use this engine and build it properly to handle an aggressive STS set up. Or should I just start with an LS2. It would be a shame to waste a good motor that I have as a spare. I just want to set my one in the car aside complete and go with a built engine.

Considering I've had one cracked crank in the past, my recommendation would be to go ahead and put a forged crank in since the rest of the internals are forged. Why take a chance on having a weak link?

I know you have to repin the crank when replacing and it is a pain in the ass, but I still think it would be worthwhile.

Just my .02

A worked over stock crank is fine. People are running -much- faster than anyone on this board (bottom 8's) on stock LS1/6 cranks.

I think Paul (8 second Z06) was running a stock crank. So unless you are going alot over 1000hp you don't need a forged one.

ECS which is a sponser here has a package which just replaces the pistons/rods in a stock LS6 with their supercharger and it does around 700rwhp. I think it has gone over 800rwhp. So with a STS at 14 psi you should be around 700hp and be fine with a stock crank.

I like the sounds of the stock crank with replacement rod/pistons, 700whp cool, this is the route I think I will go. I do have a couple of cranks to sapre. I need to keep within a budget for the motor since the STS will cost a few bucks.

Thanks guys.
