I'm not sure if when using the term "lag" we are referring to the same thing. I have a T76 Single Turbo Z06. It makes right at 600rwhp @12psi (still being tweaked). I'm running whats considered a medium sized turbo in the domestic V8 market. Its a T76 gts unit, rated for 1,100fwhp. There are Supras making 980+ with this unit. With a 3liter, power doesn't really hit till well into the 5K rpm range. With my stock displacement Z, I start to build boost by 2,500 rpm. I hit 12psi by 3,200rpm. I don't consider that laggy since most s/cs dont see full boost until above 6K. Do you feel a difference at 3,200rpm vs. 2500rpm...hell yes!!! That may what people think of as lag. My torque peak(598rwtq) is at about 4K rpm. Prior to switching turbos it made 580rwtq and was its pretty flat (needs to be retuned to achieve the same effect). For the guys that want to make peak boost or torque sooner, it is my belief that that is a waste of time...it will just result in tire spin. My car will spin the tires in 3 or 4th gear at 80mph. Thats not cool when you are trying to go fast. I'm starting to really become a believer in single turbo setups. The problem in our cars is packaging. My current setup fits fine (with some alteratioins). I will be putting in a large cube motor soon and the unit that i need to run (medium frame T88) is posing some packaging challenges to say the least. Once these are settled, I believe that you'll see some pretty respectable big cube turbo power numbers.

I am far from a turbo expert but if you have a sequential turbo set up, you could have a smaller turbo to kick in first t-66 say, and then by the time that turbo lets off say 4k, you could have a t-78H or t-88H kick in correct, you would still have some lag time building up full boost in the t-78 and especially the t-88 but wouldn't that be a good set up for a big cube block such as a 427 or a 454 (some one will have one soon...)

First Prototype Manifold 1st prototype.

Now THIS is a Turbocharger!

That's all I have that I can share. These are VERY early pics. The design has changed, but only very slightly. My agreement with my partners is not to disclose until at least the first tune. That is the turbocharger we will be using.

Will post more info as it becomes available.

Hey Earl... I hear you on the packaging issues. My setup will NOT fit under the stock hood (misses by 0.5"). I will most likely cut a hole in the hood and glass on a tasteful small scoop on the pass-side where the turbo will be located. A high rise hood would also resolve that issue. We already have the heat shielding for the surrounding plastic and electrical components.

We were originally going to go with the turbo mounted under the car, but since I wanted to be able to replace components without having to lift the car, putting the turbo up top was the only choice. I can change out the turbo in 5 minutes!

Earl, do you have pics of how your I/C is positioned, and your intake?

Thanks!

1Bad...

Is that a T76...looks identical to mine. Turns out...the T88 WILL NOT Fit . I'm going to see how far I can push the T76 GTS on the 427.

Regarding my intercooler...I ended up changing to the A&A FMIC. My turbo is positoned about 5 inches to the right of the ATI S/C positioning. I made a few tweaks and it fits great. I'll take a few pics and get them to you this weekend. I'd love to see pics of your setup too.

Here is the hood you need 1BAD. Don't carve up your stock one.

Looking forward to seeing your dyno and what the final cost will be.

Perry: Thanks! I think I'm going to investigate other options as well - I have a liking for the MCM hood.

Earl: A T88 will not fit without cutting (not on top anyways)... I will get you specs on the turbo - got an email address? You may be interested in one of these units - they flow more than your typical turbo. We have used the same brand of turbo to make 600rwhp MR2 Turbos.

I'll snap some pics in a couple of weeks for all to see. We are doing the final fitment August 1, 2004. I'll be boosting shortly after that - I can't wait!!!

IBADRIDE,

I just verified that a T88 wont fit without extensive hood midification. I am running the T76 without hood mods. I will be purchasing the ACP Carbon Fiber Heat Extractor hood however because of the extra ventilation that it provides. I am using a PT76 GTS unit, good for 1,100fwhp. I believe that this is the perfect turbo for a stock displacement LS1 motor. I'm going to test the limits of the turbo on a 429 Darton Motor. At the upper limits of boost (that I intend to run), I know that this turbo won't be efficient. If I can get it to make 650-700rwhp, with a good broad power curve , then I'll be happy. My goal is run 10's on street tires. I am currently at 600rwhp @ 12psi. I will be on vacation for the next two weeks, so I'll probably tweak the tune a bit.

My email address is: teresayharris@yahoo.com

I am very interested to hear what kind of turbo you are using. I've tested two so far and have found some interesting things.
