3 months ago I purchased a 2001 Speedway White Z06 Corvette. It is all stock. I would like to install STS twin turbos. I have researched both turbo
chargers and super chargers. I think overall turbo charging is a better way to go. I don't want to get to radical I was figuring running between 6 and 8 lbs. of boost. Does anyone have experience with the STS kits and what is your opinion on them. Also does anyone have an opinion on turbo vers super charging.

Re: Turbo Charging
First of all welcome to .
There are some members here that have the STS turbo setup but most are not stock motors so they run more boost. I think that 8 lbs may be too much for your stock motor to consistently handle and getting a proper tune is so important in preventing damage to the engine.

Welcome to the forum. There are many guys on here that have chose the STS route and are happy. There are a handful who have some killer set ups with STS as well.
Have you contacted Rick Squires at STS?
My buddy had their initial prototype STS kit on his 2003 Z and either it was installed incorrectly (by himself) or the tune was off, but I would easily pull him with my 490 rwhp C5.
(I honestly think he just didn't push the envelope because when I drove it....DAYMN!!!) I think he was shifting whenever he heard the blow off valve exhale.

I'm planning the STS twins for mine as well
From what I have seen you shouldn't run more than 7lbs on the stock motor, unless you run methanol injection too. Then you might safely (arguably) run 9-10lbs. I spoke with the guys at STS and came up with a couple options for mine. They have some packages that include methanol injection and variable electronic boost control so you could run 6-7 lbs on a low boost setting and 9-10lbs on a high setting.

Talk with one of the tuning companies advertised on the site. They will be able to advise you of the best option for your car. You need to be very careful how much boost you run on a stock bottom end. There have been countless stories of people running too much boost, and completely destroying their engines. Don't think many people go beyond 6psi without forging the bottom end.
If I were you, I'd do some serious research on the STS kit before you commit to it. I know of at least two people who have had issues with oil blowing past the seals on their turbos. I was told by one noted tuner that the problem has to do with the return oil pumps not being up to the task. They (the tuning shop) tried to come up with some solutions but ultimately gave up and now don't recommend/ sell the kit.
The most simplest, straightforward with the least amount of headaches is by far supercharging.
On a stock 02 and up Z06 with headers expect an easy 550rwhp.
When installed and tuned properly you can go anywhere, do anything, anytime you want. If you sell your car-it's easily reversible to.
The newer blower can be purchased so there is just a hint of whine-there almost silent to having a noticeable whine.
I have a favorite kit-it's complete for around $5200-5300.
I would strongly consider this before going with a STS kit.
PM me if you have any questions.

Yeah...but can it go 8.8's?j/k
I agree...a supercharger would be my choice for an FI application, and one can't wrong with either the A&A Vortech kit or the ECS Novi kit. Both are street and track proven, supply all the necessary components, generate more than enough power than most can use on the street, and are fairly priced.

Both kits can go 8.8's-one kit would require the car to become a track only car though.
I don't understand the novelty with the Turbo really when there a real good blower kits out there.
I thought ECS went out of business not long after they stopped being a site sponsor here?

***edit***
I am editing this post since there appears to be at least one person in the world who didn't take this as a joke with Don (Benson) and fears that my mighty words carry so much weight around the country that telephone land lines would be over whelmed by massive amounts of inquires about ECS being out of business.
In deference to that individual (or more) I will state unequivocally that my post to Don was part of our ongoing banter over the years and that ECS is STILL IN BUSINESS
I hope this edit will resolve any paranoia that might have occurred

LOL...not yet.
But Doug Ring from ECS did just go 8.8x@158 in his Novi powered C5-Vert....just a tad faster than your Procharged C5-Z. I can link the video to the run if you'd like.

Come on Don-why don't you ask Doug to take his race car and return it back to a "real" car and then show us how fast he can go?
That means-put in a 4 speed tranny-not a powerglide
Put back his power steering rack
Put back his AC
Put back his factory brakes
Put back his factory control arms, etc, etc....
He has sooo many trick parts on that car it's not funny. It's a race car-plain and simple. It's not a street car, not matter what he says-5000 stall, 3.73 gear and a powerglide-come on-he can drive to the beach, and to the track-ask hime to get on the interstate and drive up here to T.O?
I know I can get on the interstate-turn on my AC and drive down to ATCO.

How fast has the NOVI gone in a real street car?
Once he puts in the 3.42's it will be a real street car.
To answer your question, I see very few sub-9 second "street" cars, because if you try and drive them on the street for any period of time $hit happens. I suspect Doug did what he did in order to prove a point. But there are a few mid-9 second Procharged, Novi and Vortech powered street cars running around...with their power steering in tact, AC in tact, full suspension, 6 speed/auto etc, etc,...but I doubt that they are daily drivers like your Z is/was...of course, those guys with those cars don't necessarily have the luxury of a shop at their beck and call to fix things that break/go wrong on a 9 second daily driver...if you know what I mean.
