Will stock trannie, rear end, itc.. be okay running 550hp to the rear wheels?

I'm thinking about putting a twin turbo kit running 5psi of boost on a stock motor. Reading up on things, sounds like the motor will be just fine but I'm worried about the trannie, rear end, driveshaft, itc... I know I will probably need to upgrade the clutch but will everything else hold up?
I won't do much drag racing with it at all. Just normal spirited driving once in a while and maybe few track events...

Any comments, suggestions?
Thanks

Yes, they will be fine... although you should consider adding a DTE or RPM brace!

Can you explain in more detail what they are and where they go?
Thanks

According to the factory manuals the M12 (Z06) transmission is input rated for 400 ft/lb and the MM6 (C5) is rated for 450 ft/lb. This surprises me as I would have thought it would be the opposite. So is this a typo or is it correct?

These tranny's are underrated. The Tremec T5 I had in my old Mustang didn't wimper and that car was at 615rwhp/595rwtq.

To answer the original question... yes, you'll be fine, so long as you don't bolt on a set of drag slicks and drop the clutch at 5000+rpm. The clutch will actually last longer than you might think, too, although you will end up replacing it at some point.

You'll want a new Clutch, right off... The rest of the driveline will survive just fine, provided you don't dump the clutch with DRs, as stated above. I'm on the shy-side of 500 RWHP with my Vortech, and my 315 PS rear tires can't hook it up. More motor really wouldn't do me much more good. Tires will be a limiting factor for you, too. Think of them like "fuses". They slip before the driveline breaks.

I'm running 5-6# of boost with a TTi kit. I don't drag race, but I like to "utilize" my 02's capabilities once in awhile. I haven't had any driveline problems to date with approx. 10k miles since install. My only recommendation would be to pick up a set of Nitto DR's, unless long, smoky burnouts are your goal. The traction difference vs. the stock GY's is night and day. Enjoy !

I recent recruit told a college coach that he "Intends to play NCAA ball a couple of years and then enter the NFL draft".

The college coach admonished the youngster to "Stay for the 4 full years and get a degree as it would serve him better in the long run".

The young recruit questioned the coach, saying that he could "Earn millions of dollors sooner".

"Not really". the coach retorted as "NFL" doesn't really stand for what you think it does.

"What does it stand for?" the youngster queried

"Not For Long !!" the coach replied.

The same may apply here.

If you get on it with a TT, SC or NOS I would suggest blueprinting, strengthening and cooling both the Diff & the Tranny. Stronger Input shafts, Output shafts, one piece counter shafts, steel shifting forks, reinforced pinion carrier and external bracing are not out of the question maybe prudent etc. One can only look to the strengthening of the clutch AND the Tranny & Diff done for the 505 HP LS7 in the C6 Z06. I'd follow that example.

Dynotech or Rockland Standard are worth the call.

you will need a clutch....tranny should be ok, and as long as your not drag racing, your rear end should be ok. I agree that you should get a DTE brace for the rear.

What is a DTE brace for the rear and is it difficult to install? I think I may need one of these.

I am with Wes on this. If you don't beat on the car, and don't run anything "stickier" than a drag radial at the track, no 4K clutch dumping launches and then you MAY be OK. Truth is that the stock tranny and rear end has been a trouble spot for some on stock HP. Personally I went with the steel shift forks and hardened output shaft when I beefed up the motor. No problems, but maybe I am just ... lucky.

Well let me just say, I put a new trans in a month ago.

And I put a new rear in yesterday.

Today I put the DTE Trans brace on, its not as easy as it looks good thing my cradle was still out.

here is a link to DTE:

The purpose of the DTE differential strut brace is to project the trans when you take out the diff.

I haven't had any trans issues and I've been running well north of 500 rwhp for two years. I do have a twin disc clutch along with hardened shafts and a strut brace.
