Would buying a AFR 205cc Head put me over 450whp?

Ive been contemplating now for weeks whether to remove the aggressive Crane Cam and putting a IC Mag to get me to the 475-500whp #.

But with all the threads recently about how H/C setups are really moving along as well power wise.

I mainly dont do 1/4mile running, just street stuff.

Right now I expect Im putting down about 410whp with the Cam I got sitting in there and the kooks headers and the halltech intake with cf bridge.

I was wondering if I do the AFR 205cc head, would that put me well over 450whp to almost 475whp?

But then again this aggressive cam is starting to bug me as far as drivability is concerned. Ive turned this vette into my daily driver recently. So im just lost on what to do. I mean I know i cant have the best of both worlds, Im going to have to give up something.

More I think about it I would like to drop to a little less aggressive cam which doesnt rock the car at idle and doesnt give me hot start problems and then drop the AFR heads on it and call it day. But not sure if thats going to get me to 450-475whp mark.

Depending on your budget (that's what it comes down to for 99.9% of us), I can tell you that the I/C Mag or any other blower will get you the numbers you want with the stock cam, or something that is very close to stock.

I know a local guy who has a mild aftermarket cam (something you might like if you're tired of your current one) with the AFR heads and he's ~435rwhp running through hi-flow cats. It still has some lope at idle certainly, but is milder acting than what you have currently...at least compared to what you describe.

Well I have the money for the s/c kit, just alot of people been trying to talk me out of it and go head cam. I love the flat torque curve the IC Mag gives you and mainly looking at that.

I may pull this cam this weekend if I get a chance and put back in the stock z06 one, but I may reconsider if I do plan on going IC Mag, cause then might as well put in a good blower cam and do it then.

I would get the 21CMC blower cam that is designed specifically for the Mag blower. I've seen some of the dyno results compared to the stock cam. With the stock cam the power starts falling off a bit early ... around 5800rpm. With the blower cam, it pulls another 500+rpm, and often will make over 500rwhp while maintaining that super-flat TQ curve across the rev-range.

WA 2 FST is right if you spend a lot of time over 5800rpm you should go for the blower cam by 21CMC. Their cam is highly recommended if you have a LS1 engine or a 2001 Z06. With your 2002 Z it would be hard to justify the cost.

Dixit...i checked your sig and your cam by todays H/C standards would not be considered a "big" cam...so dropping to a little smaller cam such as 228/114* or 224 and adding AFR heads will make more streetable but probably will not meet your goal of 475rwhp, but probably closer to 440-450rwhp. It will run very strong. Going the SC route and even with a blower cam will result in even better street manners and exceed 475rwhp.

I've been researching this H/C vs S/C for a long time now. Unless you were going to do intense road racing, you are better off with the Mag for a street car. Reliable, Good gas mileage..etc with the Mag. I just don't by into this H/C better than S/C bit. HP is HP, and TQ is TQ, no matter what the means.

You will run a very low 11 on drag radials with the Mag and 21st century cam, and higher with ET streets/slicks. This result with a very streetable car. How do I know? because plenty of people around here have done it.

Then it might be evident that I should pull out this cam and put back in the stock Z06 cam and order the IC Mag as ive been wanting. I do like this crane cam, but its a bit aggressive for me and wasting gas as well I however may look into the 21CMC cam that ive seen alot of people put on their Mag setup.

Hey,

I have the AFR heads and comp 228-232 XER cam. 438rwhp, and I will most likely have the Mag and cam put in by 21st Century Muscle Cars by the end of the year. Or maybe the 427. I like the current set up and it is a very good street car... However you can never have enough power right!

Thanks, I bought the car last week from a fellow Z06vette forum member. You can thank him, "YELLOW405Z" is his name.

You bought a beautiful car. The man had spent lots of money and love into that car. I looked at the pics and they are very nice.

One thing though, you have nice Sub and Amp, but head unit is still stock. You need to give that amp a good head unit.

Also, nice color

Actually the stock headunit was replaced by Mark because he took the Kenwood LCD back, I kept the rest of the sub stuff. Which I also removed because im going to revamp the entire setup. For now Im putting a one Diamond Audio 12" in the center section of the trunk before I decide what I really want to do with the 12w7.

I have a Pioneer Navi LCD that im putting inplace of the kenwood he removed.
