05 C6

I really had a great time this morning looking at the pictures and reading about the new C6. Until I got to Rick Daniel's site. When I saw a full frontal view and got a good look at the new head lights I felt like Dr. Phil. "What the hell were they thinking about?" I may be an old poot but those light clusters look like pure rice to me. I went out and walked around my 02 Z06 and once again admired the classic flowing lines. The flow of the body panels on the C6 are just to busy, too many humps ridges, etc. Just not my cup of tea. All of the exiciting parts of the C6 are performance related. So now the base vets will be as quick as the C5 Z06's. Sort of a scary thought. I don't think that increased performance over today's levels are going to sell the C6 to the masses. Sorry GM, but I'll just wait for the C7. It may come sooner than we think.

Couldn't agree with you more!!! The sad part about though, is the only way you can make significant change in this country, is to hit them in their pocket books. And I think the General will continue to sell their 30+ thousand vehicles a year, so don't expect any real change anytime soon.

I agree that GM will sell all they make. However, after seeing the chevy commercial here on the site and on the tube last night. The C6 is looking pretty darn good looking. Sounds good too if they didn't dub in Z06 sounds over the C6 sound!

Looks are subjective to anyone's opinion. When the C5 came out in '97, I thought...RX7, too ricey for me. Now after having owned three C5's, I luv the curvaceous flowing lines of my EB beauty. And I'm sure the C6 will be that way also. It's still a vette with all (maybe) the present day engineering for a mass produced sports car that can be put into it. Hell...I'd luv a 427 with a reliable tranny and be able to pick a rear ratio to suit my tastes too. But with big brother watching over his sheep, that probably will not happen. Of course...just my .02.

I can truly say that when a new model comes out I either like it, or I don't. The design just doesn't grow on me. I will agree that on paper the C6 is an enginering marvel, but I don't know if that will be enough to generate the sales numbers that GM needs. The roads are full of marginally engineered automobiles that sell simply because they look good just as there are cars with superior engineering that don't catch on because they are ugly. The front view of the C6 doesn't scream Vette when I look at it. As you said looks are subjective to anyone's opinion. My opinion is that analysis of the piece parts of the C6 gets us all excited, but when combined into the finished product it leaves me cold.

After reading about the C6 and looking at the pictures, I got to say, that I am liking it more and more. I like the bulged hood and high front fenders, which will give you a great view from the drivers seat. The car seems to have ties with all the previous generation Corvettes.
Like it or not, the C6 Coupe with the Z51 performance pkg. and 6 speed transmission, will be pretty damn close to the performance and handling of our Z06's, and will beat it in braking and top speed. That's ok, because this is progress as it should be.
I think the C6 will do extremely well in sales!

Rice or not, I like them. Like Gary said, it's progress. Did you ever pop up the C5 headlights at 150 MPH? Not a fun experience as the entire front of the car wants to jump into flight.

I agree with Gary, this C6 is really growing on me. Damn I was just about ready to get an '04. Oh what to do??

Nope, never tried it. Pulled my owners manual and checked for a warning on maximum speed to pop the headlights on the C5 and couldn't find a reference. Sounds like a real safety problem to me.

Seriously my comments are related to the styling of the C6 missing the mark. I just don't think the average Vett owner is going to line up and pay a premium for the C6. No offense intended, but to me ugly isn't progress. The engineering is where the progress takes place. If you want real hi tech use a cover over the headlights that is opaque when energized and clear when the current is removed. No stability problems at 150 mph that way and the technology exists.

Disagree with everything you say. Love the lights, love the car. You wait until the C7, your loss.

I desperately want to like this car, because I like what the Z06 is rumored to be like when it comes out.

But so far I don't. Those headlights are just horrid, at least in all the color combos I've seen.

All I can say, is that to get my business Chevy had BETTER price that Z06 competitively, because if it comes out anywhere close to being Viper-priced, I'm not a player, especially given that I'm luke-warm to the looks at best.

if the headlights r the biggest issue for some, i'm sure aftermarket will cater to ya. /shrug, don't see why when modding is so much fun some just don't wanna have anything to do w/ the car cause of the headlights. to each their own and i'll respect that to the end, but then again, it's hard to please everybody!
