This is my first post here and I have what might be a rather silly question (flame suit on). I was in an (08) the other day and decided that I also need one...I mean have to have one.
I'm in the market for a fairly new, low mile, Z06. Black on black with the 2LZ package. I can't afford a brand new one, so I am looking at 06 and 07 models. trying to keep it at/under the 50K mark. I've seen them sell for the upper 40s on eBay so I hope to find something in that ball park.
Can someone please explain to me what the differences are and what upgrades/improvements (if any) have been made since 06? I've been doing some research here, but I can't find the answers to all my questions.
Also, if anyone can point me in a good direction in locating one in the Northern NJ area, that would be great. If not, I guess I'll have to take the eBay route and have her shipped (or go pick her up). THANKS!!

I'll find one...it will probably be in Alaska with my luck, but I'm sure I'll be able to snag one for $50K. There is a red one on eBay that is at $51K and ends in about 4hrs. 2006, 2LZ, 8000+ miles in FL. I'd jump on it if it was black.
I'll give it a try:
2006, 1st model year with some wrinkles to iron out. The roof had a tendency to separate from the framework. A few had problems with rear end chatter. Some people think they are lighter and therefore faster than the 07 & 08 model. Onstar was not available. Daytona Sunset Orange was only offered this year. Most dealers asked for and got rediculous markups.
2007, Better insulation. Chrome wheels, Onstar and Atomic Orange were available options. Roof and rear end problems have been corrected for the most part by mid year.
2008, New steering and tranny. 3LZ interior upgrade made available. Jetstream Blue is the new color. Supply outweighs demand and discounts are widely available.
Good luck in your search and welcome to the forum.
I've seen discounts of $8K off of MSRP by major dealers on the 08 Z. PM me if you'd like. There are over 1000 2008 Z's on the ground at dealerships right now looking for good homes.
Rear end chatter is not unique to the MY06 Z. It affects all C6 model years well into MY2007 regardless of vette model. Is it affecting 2008 cars?? I don't know that answer but as the 08 model year fleet accumulates miles, we will know the answer to that one soon. For me, the dealer diff fluid change didn't work a year ago but my DIY change to AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W90 three months ago is still working very well.
I would buy the newest car I could afford. The differences in the year models is nothing particularly significant to be concerned about. My 06 has been trouble-free for over 21k miles and is the most reliable vette I have owned to date.

This is pretty much the list. I would search out a 2008. Upgrades are well worth it. Good luck.
DrtyHarry,
Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search!
And... I really didn't need to read that used C6 Z06s are down to $50k or so. There is a new black 08 at the local Chevy dealership and I made the mistake of going by there a few weeks ago looking at a Suburban for my wife. I've been really happy with my 06 CTS-V as a daily driver... but man is the new Z06 nice...
100000 would make a difference if you actually daily drive your beast! I've noted that for many garage queen keepers that the mileage would be largely irrelevant!
