06 C6 Shift paddles?

I heard that the 06 C6 has a shift paddle option......Is it similar to the smg on the bmw m3? I hardly ever used the paddles in the m3. I guess if you road race it might be a benefit...maybe the strip too. I hear its only a 1,200$ option. sounds nice!!!

No,

The M3 is equipped w/ SMGII.

SMGII is the normal 6 speed gearbox w/ a set of hydraulic
actuators (w/ feedback) for the shift position (2) and the
clutch (1) all controlled by the SMGII ECU and the DME.

The Corvette system is actually an automatic transmission
with paddle selectors, more like "steptronic". They have a
set up w/ planetary gears/etc IIRC.

BTW, if you didn't "use the paddles" on your M3, how did
you shift?!?

well the smg can actually be driven without shifting manually....it has an adjustable setting for the firmness and quickness of the clutch also. It has different settings, from a drive mode which is basically automatic and another setting for manual which can be shifted from the stick or the paddles. i never raced it so i never got used to using the paddles. You sound like youre more inclined on the setup of the M3 but i do know that what i described above is how mine worked....to tell you the truth i dont even know how to pronounce some of the tems you used. haha jk . is there a new setup on the smg that i dont know about?

How could you not have used them? They're a blast. I use them almost exclusively. I barely use the auto mode. I never used the auto mode in my Ferrari. You don't need to race to use it. It just gives you more control of the car. Try them out. It's a pretty good system. Not as good as Ferraris but pretty good. BMWs downshifts too slow. Ferraris is instantaneous. The bad thing about the Vette is that it still has the pwer robbing torque converter because it's an automatic at heart. BMW, Ferrari and Lamborghini uses a true 6 speed standard tranny.
