My '07 had an August '06 build and I have been dealing with the shifter rattle during acceleration for about a year now. Is their any SB or fix yet????

Thanks on advance.

Re: Any Fix Yet for Shifter Rattle?

The service order only states that they replaced the Shifter Control Assembly, part number 25823571. I got a call from both the dealer and the Chevy customer service center on the same day last week saying they finally had a fix. That was about a week after I called the customer service center and complained long and loud. Coincidence?

Re: Any Fix Yet for Shifter Rattle?

I may regret saying this, but every Corvette I have owned for the last 42 years had a shifter that rattled.

Now my new 2007 Z06 does not rattle. Am I lucky or what?

Just wait til you have the car sit overnight somewhere at 40 degrees F. I will most assuredly rattle. I have not heard mine rattle [and it rattles bad] since March when overnight temps were dipping into the upper 30s/lower 40s. They were supposed to have a fix for the 07s 6 months ago.

Re: Any Fix Yet for Shifter Rattle?

Virtually all '06 and '07 shifters will inevitably rattle at some point. However, it often takes a few thousand miles before the problem manifests itself. If yours is not making the noise yet, it likely will in time.

The rattle/buzz is a result of vibrations within the transmission being transmitted and made audible via the shifter. The actual cause is a hard plastic bushing inside the shifter shaft where it flares out. The only way to examine this is to cut the shifter open. The fix was a redesign of this bushing material which is now a hard rubber compound. The purpose of this bushing material is to absorb hard shifts. When cold the hard bushing would vibrate against the shaft. After it became warm enough it would exapand and the clearance would diminish allong with the noise.

This is directly per GM engineering including 'autopsy photos' of a shifter that show what I'm describing.

I had my '07 shifter replaced per the TSB and part number above on September 6th. The procedure took about an hour and was covered under warranty, no questions asked.

Re: Any Fix Yet for Shifter Rattle?

Well that sucks. How do other cars manage to make a shifter that doesn't rattle? It is the little stuff like that that made me think my 90 C4 was going to be my last Corvette.

If the engineers can't figure out how to eliminate a shifter rattle, what are they doing playing with more complex stuff like engines?

Gee whiz.

Re: Any Fix Yet for Shifter Rattle?

There have been many reports of the ashtray door not staying shut. The warranty fix appears to be replacement of the following two items:

p/n 10324612 Latch
p/n 10324613 Dampener

Re: Any Fix Yet for Shifter Rattle?

I had the shifter ratter TSB accomplished with the new shifter and my rattle is now worse than ever.. There's several other that have experienced this too.
