The C6 Z06 DIC beeps when a button is pressed. This behavior is likely hard coded in the firmware of the DIC itself and thus not easily changed. Either that or it's in the PCM programming and may be editable via tuning software, although I don't recall that it's an editable parameter.
It might help to think of it as a "Meep Meep", ala the Roadrunner, instead of an annoying beep.
GM wants Corvette owners to know when they pressed a button. This is a form of Pavlovian conditioning that stimulates the pleasure center of the brain due to an expected reward. The reward being the chosen display that indicates all is well.
Believe it or not, they spend a lot of time and money studying the need for things like this depending on a vehicles market segment (demographic).
As such, Buick owners are in a completely different market segment than Corvette owners and studies likely indicated blinking lights and beeps were thought of as, well...downright annoying. A Corvette owner on the other hand was found to be attracted to things like cool looking lights, beeps and buzzers that simulate what it must be like in the cockpit of the Space Shuttle.

It was this kind of thinking that gave birth to the hideous C4 speedometer that lives in the HUD...As for the beep...it is a confirmation of a keystroke ... and yeah ... Annoying at Times

Oh, I know it's a confirmation but I'm accustomed to pressing buttons, flipping switches and turning knobs in cockpits far more complex than a Corvette and you know what? Although there are warning horns, buzzers and even sexy female voices there is hardly a beep to be found.
Personally, when I press a button I can feel it click and know I pressed it. It may not be the correct button, but I know I pressed it. Why they think we need a beep to tell us that is beyond me and thus the rationale above.
Then again, it could be an "upgrade". During some engineering meeting someone was asked what could be done to "improve" the DIC and they suggested a beep. Why? No reason in particular, it's just the way (usually young) engineers are. How unnecessarily complex can they make something...just because they can.

Thanks No Doubt.....This explains so much of the pure stupid crap that GM does in the way of gadgets

FEAR THE MIATA
Yes, it can be turned off but it is a real pain. You have to remove the dashboard to get to the bells and whistles.
Mine hasn't been turned off yet but Matt at MC says he can do it, hopefully this winter. All of my engine functions are controlled by the DFI now so I always have the "Reduced Engine Power" message running across my DIC and the bells are continuous (get's a little unnerving at the starting line, I might add). He explained to me once what had to be done but I forgot what he told me

No rush, but when you see Matt can you post what he does and PM me? I think there are more than one person on the forum who find the beep obnoxious and unecessary.
That's assuming the 'beep' (it's not a bell, whistle, buzzer or chime) is coming through a speaker (and I don't mean the stereo system speakers).
It could be a electro-acoustic transducer that is integrated into the DIC itself and thus has no wire/s to cut. If so, then the only way to disable it is to re-program the DIC firmware, which can't be done if it doesn't utilize an EEPROM, etc.
Thus, this beep is not the same as the warning bells and chimes for things like the seatbelts, etc.
