Brand new yellow Z06 story. Sold the 911

Hello,

Decided that the Porsche 911 was just not my style. I had an older Z06 and I regreted the day I sold it. I decided that I wanted a porsche 911. I bought it and about 1 week later I really regreted not getting a new Z06. I only purchased a C2 911 and I felt that the car was very underpowered for the money. The Z06 just has so much raw power, which the Porsche did not even come close to having. Everytime I saw a yellow Z06 while I was driving my 75,000 dollar porsche I was actually jeleous of the Z06 driver. I know it seems ridiculous, but the Z06 really has a strong pull on its owners.

Anyway, I did some pricing online and printed some quotes, then I decided to buy local and support my local dealer. I went in and told them what I wanted and what I wanted to pay for the Z06 and they where just shocked, and told me that they would do 78,000 which is $1000 under the MSRP. I told them I would just order the corvette and save 10k and that I would still like to do business locally. They said no, but I left them my number anyway. Btw, the car that I offered to buy was a 2007 Z06 which had been on the lot for 527 days, and they still would not sell it.

I called another dealer and I told them I wanted their 2008 Z06, but I was not going to waste any time in negotiating the price. I said what I was willing to pay for the 79,500 MSRP Yellow Z06, and they said they would call me back. I got a call back and they said 76,000. I said no thanks and I was going to place my order online. I got a call 15 minutes later and they said to come on in they will sell me the car for 70,500. I went in and did a test drive and the paper work was already done.

While I was signing the paper work I got a call from the first dealer telling me that 74,500 was the lowest that he could go for the 2007 Z06, and he would likely get fired for it. I laughed and told him I was signing the papers for my new Z06 right now.

It was amazing, on my way home I got about 5 waves/thumbs up in my Z06 from just random people. I never got a single wave while owning my porsche. In fact, I waved to another porsche owner once and got a snooty look. That is not why I sold the porsche, I just realized that I love the Z06, and apparently most americans really love that car too.

Regards,
Steve

P.S. what do you think that first dealer was thinking. Do you think that they just rely on the ignorance of buyers and take it for granted that you can always go elsewhere?

No way. I dont have a single moment of buyers remorse. I feel that this may be one of the best cars in the world at any price, and that yellow is just awsome.

HEY, YOU saw the light. Congrats on the new Z. I think the first dealer will have that 07 for another 500 days.

Congrats on the new Z!! You will love it, and it will always be sweeter because you bought it your way. I did the same thing when I bought mine. I think some of these dealers smoke crack everyday and are still living in 2006.

Re: Brand new yellow Z06 story. Sold the 911

Btw, the first dealer said that if I did not buy from him I likely would have trouble getting service from his world class corvette mechanic because only people who buy corvettes from that dealership get priority for service.

There comes a point when you even get tired of talking to these guys and just say, "Ok thanks for your time." I felt that was the best way to deal with that.

Btw, the original price of that first z06 did include the 10k dealer markup which made the vette around 88k. He actually thought he was doing me a favor by waving the dealer markup.

The second dealer was such a joy to deal with it actually restored some of my faith in these scum bag dealerships.

Welcome back to the world of Z06.............great place to be and this site is just straight up family!!
Congrats on the new ride and for your handling of the deal.........I don't think I could have let the first stealership off so easy. At least would have had to blast him once with a bit of scarcasm..... You did the right thing!

Drive in your new Yellow Z06 to the first dealer and just look around his showroom.

Be nice and just let him know your browsing (because soon they will be out of business)

Re: Brand new yellow Z06 story. Sold the 911

Thanks for the welcome. I am very happy with the deal I got and the car. I guess my next upgrade will be a yellow electric Z06 in about 10-15 years, but I will stay with Corvette from here on out.

Btw, My birthday is coming up and I told the wife that this car can count as my present

Re: Brand new yellow Z06 story. Sold the 911

I never was a big fan of the yellow as an everyday driver , but after going to Bowling Green and comparing all the colors side by side I felt the Velocity Yellow accented the ZO6 body lines the best . It sure gets the attention , as you know . Enjoy and be careful . Best wishes , Larry
