C6Z Rocker arms and mileage question

I have an o8 Z and have read about the roller bearing failures on the rockers still happening. Has anyone installed the Harland sharp rockers on the ls7 as cheap insurance. I plan on keeping this one and don't want to keep looking for the problem. I'm pretty hard on the Z and expect trouble. How hard was the install after the removal of everything of course? Second question is related--- Are there any high mileage LS7 C6Z owners w/ a report of other issues that are arising. How are these babies holding up long term regarding the motor? So far everyone I speak to w/ this LS7 has less than 10,000 mls on it. Thanks guys

Re: C6Z Rocker arms and mileage question

That's a good point. I was really considering it if it comes up. The thought of one of those video jockeys opening up my motor send chills down my spine! And from what i hear there is no NEW rocker arm for the fix. Also they fix them one by one as they fail from what I hear. Imagine them opening your moter several times for a known condition and putting in the same low quality weak point part! I still can't believe this is how they handle this. They know most owners are not putting big miles on these cars and are waiting out the 5 years. It's a cost saving issue for them. Just venting, I still don't know why every car in my garage is a GM car, knowing what I know of this corporation! That's why I asked of anyone w/ high miles on the LS7.

Who's buying the Harland Sharps you or the dealer? And why is there a wait on 08 rockers if this isn't a common problem?

Re: C6Z Rocker arms and mileage question

All C6 Z06 ('06-'08) rocker arms are the same as far as I know. This issue does not affect only the LS7 and has been reported as far back as 1997 with the introduction of the C5. It also affects other GM engines besides those used in the Corvette.

As you can see below, I had one fail in my '07 Z06.

Although the Harland Sharp rockers appear to be a better design, one should assume their use could potentially result in warranty issues if something else were to occur. For example, if a valve spring were to break causing a valve to drop resulting in an engine failure, and aftermarket rocker arms were discovered.*

Note: although all of the reported rocker arm failures below were with '07 vehicles (out of the 8,149 produced) it does not preclude '06 and '08 cars.

Re: C6Z Rocker arms and mileage question

[b]Thanks, I wonder what the real#s are. I agree if you change out the rockers trying to avoid this and then have a related problem, could be a nightmare. I don't want to throw a 100,000 ml warranty out the window, it was part of the reason I made the purchase.

The dealer is replacing the OEM rockers with OEM rockers for now...then will order Harland Sharp rockers for me and replace them for the cost of the rockers. $400+ ...My suggestion, he checked with a race engine builder on brand of rocker that was best.... I will continue to check for foreign objects on drain plugs
