Well, here we go...I went to the Orlando Auction the other day and I was there for abt 4 hrs. First through the blocks : 2008 C6ZO6's!!!! Well, they were bid on and sold right away and after the winning bid and "SOLD FOR ...." I was in a state of SHOCK!!!! I stood there for the remaining 3 Hrs and 45 Min... SICK TO MY STOMACH...JUS KINDA PONDERING MY EXISTANCE ON THE PLANET...
----------------
BECAUSE THE 1ST SOLD FOR 55K AND THE 2ND SOLD FOR 58K W/LESS THAN 3OOO MILES ON BOTH!!!!!!...My shock turned to anger!!!!
I was there w/some Barrett Jackson and Corvette/Exotic Car heavy hitters...I asked them what tha hell jus happened....they said "We've been doing this for 30years and this is what GM is notorious for..... They MAN-whore everything out and mass produce everything...which drives the stock in a great car to the bottom!!!!"
THEY ALSO TOLD ME ITS REF THE ZR1...ITS THE BADBOY NOW AND THE C6ZO6 IS BASICALLY OBSELETE!!!!!
Now knowing the value of my 08 w/3000mi on it..I'M PISSED!!!!
THERE'S NO DAMN EXCLUSIVITY AND THEIR SHOULD BE BECAUSE THESE C6ZO6'S ARE PERFORMERS AND DAMN GOOD CARS...I'M PISSED! (oh i said that already..)

Don't sell for that. No problem. I don't think that the car is a dime a dozen. There may be a few in the lanes at the auction, but it's not a common car.

$58K for a used 08 is not bad at all with less than 3000 miles.
BUT, for another $8-10K, you could pick one up new off the show room floor (pending what options it has). $10K is a huge chunk of change, but at least it's new and you have the piece of mind knowing that it wasn't pulled out from a swamp or beat up on a racetrack. I don't think it's all that bad.
First of all, selling a "new" car at an auction is not smart, but good for fast cash. Selling an old car or rare car is fine, as you may have buyer competition you normally wouldn't. Second, there are commissions that in effect raise that car price by say 10%, so that's 5800$ up to 63,000. That's within 10% of a totally new EXACT SAME car. Just look at it from the buyers view.
When I see a 2008 car with 3000 miles being auctioned I think insurance claim, theft, joy ride, flood damage, Car-jacking, blood on the carpet - mobile.
Go for a ride and relax, at least you don't have 2 feet of snow and 13 degrees outside....
That's not that bad considering you can get a brand new fully loaded ZL2 package with premium color for just $10K more.
But more importantly - are you considering selling her? Because if not - does it really matter? Hell no.
Consider what's in that ZR1. The frame is exactly what you have now. But its got the rheological shocks (something more advanced but similar to what I worked on during my doctoral research at RPI way back in the late 80's) - that's great but when it comes to tracking I prefer the better weight distribution of my Z - the roll resistance, wheel tracking and camber dynamics are about the same when both suspensions are in a full g turn. Compliance on the highway - that concern is for people who should have bought something else.
I guess what I am saying is that if you add those ceramic discs and the extra HP to the Z - you'd be getting as good or even better times in your Z. The ZR1 has a good weight distribution - just not as good as the Z06's.
I'm loving life in my Z. My only two problems are:
(1) I lack the willpower to drive the other family car when it rains. Oh well.
(2) I'm not on the track everyday.

What he said!!! An auction price is'nt an indication to me what a car is worth. An auction car, especially a newer one, is a mystery car! That's why the price. And yes GM does this all the time but there were no promises this time. They did it w/ the old ZR1 too. Fact is even living in Florida you don't see one every day. It's still a big boy on the block and alotta car for the buck. The ZR1 isn't going to make the Z drop like a rock. It's literally in a whole other tax bracket! Your talking another 40-50 K to jump up to a ZR1. These Z's will level off and stay there a while like always but it is upsetting to see a price like that. I have an O8 w/ 4000 mls and it's no auction car.
I had a '99 hardtop, 345 HP.
I upgraded in 2001 for the Z06, 385 HP.
I upgraded again in 2004 for the 405 HP and better shocks.
In 2006 the 505 HP C6 removed my 2004 from the 'top of the hill'.
This summer, the ZR1 will remove the Z06 from the 'top of the hill'.
If this didn't happen, we would all be driving '99 hardtops with 345 HP.
I know it sucks for us that want to have the best, but it must happen. It's progression, evolution, enhancements, call it whatever, it's all good.
Yes the money thing sucks, don't spend the investment money at GM.
I wouldn't get too much in a tizzy over area auction results. `06Z's are still in the wholesale book for 53-55K and this particular guide (GALVES) is updated weekly based upon auction results. These are numbers that MOST dealers would bank the car for on a trade. Always remember, car purchases are typically NOT investment grade opportunities! Course, not much is these days! The ZR1 will be no exception to that rule, either. You'll have to sit on one for many, many years to realize any type of gain (once the 6-month ebay hype has died down, that is!).
(1) Auctions are not typical representations of the actual market.
(2) New cars depreciate a lot in the first 2 years. You could always buy used and let someone else pay for the depreciation.
(3) It's just a car...not an investment. Enjoy driving it and don't worry about what it's worth.
(4) Even though the ZR-1 is more advanced than the C6 Z06 does not mean your car is junk.
(5) GM is doing what we wanted them to do...build a better car. Do you honestly want them to stop improving the Vette just so your car retains its value? (don't answer that )
