Drag racing that is. I only run mid 11's. 06/LS7/Z06 do rip off some hard shifts and need a camcorder mount that will stay in place not jump around every shift or leaving the lights.
I don't want a roll bar set up or permanent set up. Suction cup set up is what I was thinking. I saw a Filmtools a Gripper 115 XL In-Car Windshield Camera Mount w/3.5" - 6" rod. In fact the one they had on display is the same camcorder I use but it looked like it's only good for cruising down some local avenue not drag racing. Attached to via a large suction cup to upper interior windshield.
Any experienced users help appreciated. I don't want to buy something that bounces or falls off every time I shift at 7000 RPM. Thanks.:mug:
I have a speaker box in my car that is ported and I have a solid metal sheath that slips right into the port. Th ebox itself is like 200 pound and mounted. It don't budge. Neighter does my mount, neighter does the camera.
I have heard of teh RAM MOUNTS and you can try a film suction cup 6" mount. BUt make sur eit has long arms so when you place the suction cut to a window, the cameras itself isn't in the way of turning certain angles.
Another cheap ticket is, someone bought a simple TRIPOD at a Best Buy or something and bunge corded it in place behind the seats. One leg left, one leg right and the 3rd leg on the high back ledge just below the rear window. Bungee it up real good. I see his video and it looks goo. It was on the track too.
I suggest try the tripod method first. When you slow down, the camera wont budge forward due to being snug against the seat backs and also bungee corded in. Give it a shot....

Jim:
Thanks, I'll follow it up. Still using the rims I bought from you last year. You sell excellent parts. Your a real car guy. Just some fresh shoes on them. Your car sounds great. I sure wish this LS7 shifted deeper into 4th gear like my 02 did approaching the traps. Insulated my hydraulic lines nearest the cat/converter and even from the reservoir and firewall lines. Stopped that peddle on the floor BS. Plus I'm waiting now to run when it cools off and the mountain air kills the humidy. Hope your car and yourself a happy 4th. Thanks again Jim.:mug:
George,
The video is pretty dated, the car was still the H/C 346 with the Corsa Ti exhaust when I shot it, it sounds very different now with the 416 and the 3" chambered exhaust. I don't plan on doing any drag racing here this summer as the density altitude at the Colorado tracks is ridiculous this time of year.
Next time it sees the track will be at this years Fest in BG. Car is almost finished, only thing left to do to it is the Tick adjustable clutch master cylinder so I can shift the beast at high RPM's without having to double clutch it.
Got a fun weekend planned for next week, as a friend of my son-in-law has invited me to a private track rental at High Plains Raceway in Byers, CO, (east of Denver) for a day of road course fun next Saturday. Really looking forward to that as we're going to get to play with his new Nissan GT/R and a couple of Porsches. Ted Pennington is going to join us there with his Z06 and RalphP is going to come and bring his laptop so we can tweak my tune a bit for more power.
Please consider joining us in Bowling Green this year for the Fest! I guarantee you'll have a great time!

Re: Camcorder mount for racing
I use one from Filmtools... The Gripper 3028 by Manfrotto. It works well for autox and drag racing. I agree with GR8 WHITE, a wide-angle converter is a must have for the in-car stuff.
Here's some footage captured using the 3028 and Sony's tiny HDR-CX100 with Wide Angle Cap:
