Re: Corvette Z06 vs. Nissan GT-R vs. Porsche 911 Turbo
Wow, 5 seconds faster per lap, that is a big margin, wonder if the same driver was used for all three runs. The article mentioned that the team was met by a Nissan race driver at the track.

That's worth some time per lap right there, being 100% familiar & comfortable with the car.
Having said that, still, that's a pretty big differential on track.

Just an FYI if you go to Road & Track Dream Come True Sweepstakes! and fill out the sweepstakes. Just say you have a subscription to road and track and you don't want to get one...and then hit enter..
after that...the page offers car and driver for a year at 5 dollars for the year.
For 47 cents an issue the car and driver subscription is worth it.

wow, it's 5 seconds faster? Last time I looked up the specs it was way less power and a lot fatter then the vet.
Oh well, I still love my vet and would not trade it in for the GT-R

Re: Corvette Z06 vs. Nissan GT-R vs. Porsche 911 Turbo
One of the big differences I noted was the AWD. In addition to the "Nissan Test Driver" at the track (one wonders how much ad-space Nissan would buy to get an article like this published!?!), the major difference in the cars is rear vs. all wheel drive. As any professional racer will tell you, four wheels worth of all-computerized traction will out-perform two wheels worth of mostly driver-controlled traction any day. Hence AWD being outlawed in most all forms of motorsport that don't absolutely require it (Baja, Rally, etc.)
It may be a bit conspiracy-theorist of me, but I suspect that there is some trickery afoot here. Nissan spent MILLIONS developing the GT-R to go after the best in the world. No way the marketing types would let it get eaten in a fair fight and disappear into the annals of history as an "almost-best" car.
Surely it is a fast car, but my guess is, Nissan bought their comparo from R&T and that private stoplight and track warriors everywhere will prove them quite wrong.

Not to mention the fact that it will command the highest markup we've seen in decades. Marketing can be thanked for that - and the relatively low production volume.
I was actually thinking of waiting for one - or by my beloved 2008 Z - when I found out that the markups will probably be more than 50% the MSRP of the car - I knew this car was not for me.

Time will tell. Love to see Nissan put the car in ALMS racing series or some endurance racing Sebring, Le Mans. Play with the Big Dogs.

This is the race weight - curb weight came in at 3190 lbs, which is correct.
Re: Corvette Z06 vs. Nissan GT-R vs. Porsche 911 Turbo
I too thought about the GT-R, even though it looks like the lovechild of a Hyundai tiburon and a monte carlo.... I have a "stage 2" WRX and love the AWD. I needed to do suspension work to get rid of the understeer, which, once gone in an AWD car, makes for really easy handling even at the limit. My WRX is so easy to power slide at the limit it verges on being almost boring, dare I say. The GT-R is all that stock, plus electro-gadgetry to boot. The result is a sweet handling car, maybe the sweetest in the world for less-than-pro racers...but....
I opted for rwd for many reasons, the simplest is it is pure, efficient, and fun.
Those numbers don't lie, but 126mph top speed in that comparo, that's what, 3rd gear?
Now let's see them play at a real (world) track like Road America.
Re: Corvette Z06 vs. Nissan GT-R vs. Porsche 911 Turbo
I read the report and I expected some of the data and otheres I did not and I aslo think it's skewed towards the Nissan. some points I picked up.
- The corvette is a faster cars overall. The weight to power is much better and you can see that as they accelerate past 100 miles per hour. it becomes significantly stronger.
- The porsche and the GTR has better traction at launch and on the track. It should be when it has AWD and launch control. It's probably also much more consistent in launch.
- The track lap time is skewed I feel, Because having been a Nissan fan in the past. I know that Steve Millen is a long time Nissan race car driver and tuner. He has been making a living racing and tuning Nissans for decades. He was a factory racer at one time and help prep Paul Newman's cars. He definitely know the NIsaan better than the other cars and probably have way more seat time and may even help develope it for the U.S market. It's like asking Schumaker to test drive a Lambo and a Ferrarie around a track and say which is better.
- The last point that I feel they skewed in the review was they gave the same amount of styling point to the Nissan as the Corvette and less to the porsche. and in my opinion that gave the Nissan the points to win. They even said in the beginning of the article that the styling was split on their staff, so how can the Nissan garner the same amount of point? Also the Nissan is a better looking car than the Porsche? are they nuts. That is a loss in credibility. The Nissan maybe allot of things technically, but definitely a Homely car ( I was trying to decide between it and the Z06 and after seeing it live I am pretty much going the route of the Corvette.) The thing Looks like a tiburon with extra parts, or a 78 Celica witha grill hideous things. Just add some louvers, bell bottoms and it's back to 78'.
- I think the GTR probably is faster around a track for most due to technically aids an dit's prbably better for 95 percent of the drivers out there (me included), but I believe at the end of the day the corvette is a better car and probably a more fun ( dangerous) car.
