Ferrari guy planning to buy Z06 looking for advice
I am new to the forum and would appreciate any advice as you guys are experts on the Z06. I have read a fair amount and I am very impressed with the Z06, but would like to know if you can guide me further.
I went to a local dealer yesterday who has 2 new 2008 models and a gently used(2,400 mile) 2007. Any major differences which I should be aware of in the two model years?? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Z06vette.com.
The 08s did receive a few changes. The steering is revised a bit (supposed to give better on center feel), the tranny is new with better shift feel, and there's now an upgrade interior trim option that looks nice. Powertrain other than the tranny is unchanged. You won't go wrong with either the 07 or an 08 though!

Welcome to the site, and glad to see you appreciate the Z06.
Handling, comfort, fuel economy, insurance rates, maintenance costs, and performance are equal, if not better than most Ferrari's.
Almost forgot, no gas guzzzzzler tax too!
You might find an un-sold new '07 Zee right now for a nice price.
Re: Ferrari guy planning to buy Z06 looking for advice
Zippy said it best. I would add that there are some getting good discounts off sticker lately. I just bought an 08Z 3 mnths ago for 5000 off sticker which made the jump easier to an 08 instead of the o7. And as stated you would benefit from the new changes. I had the luxury of driving the 07Z w/ 4500 mls 1st and then the 08Z and noticed a very different feel to the 08 mainly the steering and shifting which really mattered to me. If it's not much more to you ,get the latest and the greatest, the o8. As far as the car I've driven many sports cars including the Modena and I will say this beast is the easiest to keep. It's like a luxury car that transforms into a racecar when you command. I've owned alot of vettes and this 08 is one of the best. It's hard to dislike. Very easy to maintain and you'll still get plenty of attention. Not like the Ferrari but enough. For the money it's alot of fun and the fit, finish, and paint have improved. Best of luck Merry Christmas!!
Re: Ferrari guy planning to buy Z06 looking for advice
Thanks to all for your advice. I very much appreciate it. I used to post on FerrariChat, but to be honest, I am not a fan of most Ferrari owners. I have a Challenge Stradale which I track on occasion. It is an amazing car and I still take it to the track, but Ferrari events tend to be dominated by superficial elitist types more interested in the cocktail parties than the driving.
So, now I usually just get together with like minded guys with various types of sportscars and we rent Roebling Road up in Savannah and have a great time. I love the Ferrari for its engineering and heritage, but would rather spend my time with other gear heads.
I am very impressed with the Z06. A great piece of engineering and a huge bang for the buck. Thanks again for the advice.

Hey Mark you won't be disappointed w/ the caliber of guys in the Zo6 circles. I met a fella some time ago at a gas station who came out of the Ferrari circle to the Z. He expalined to me that the Ferrari was quite a car but he really enjoyed the Zo6 experience much more. He said he was approached more by guys like himself and liked the gearhead thing. Either way good luck with your decision, and go for the 08 and break it in right so you enjoy it. Jim

To me steering feel and shifter feel are two of the most important aspects of driving experience, if not the most important. That alone would push me to the '08.

It's the little things, although you could no doubt bring the 07 up to the 08 spec with parts.

Hey Mark you won't be disappointed w/ a C5 ZO6 OR A c6 z.
Re: Ferrari guy planning to buy Z06 looking for advice
Well, Mark ... now that the specs are out on the ZR1 ... would be great if you could "check one out" ... I would think the General would jump at putting a Ferrari guy in the driver's seat ...
The brakes should be "adequate."
Assuming you're in a Z by June ... VIR with the NCM would be a great track intro ... lot'sa C6Z's there and over 100 Corvettes. (there's a thread on it in the Racing/HPDE section.)
The Ferrari Club of Washington has track events at Summit Point ... I haven't been, tho I've had instructors who also instructed for them ... occasionally a Ferrari shows up for HPDE events I've been at ... usually not driven hard.

Re: Ferrari guy planning to buy Z06 looking for advice
Mark,
As a former 360, 430, and Lamborghini Gallardo owner myself, I can honestly admit that while you won't get the "Oh wow, is that a Ferrari/Lamborghini?!?" at every gas station, stop light, and school crossing, you will be driving a car that, on either the road or track, will continually show it's world-beating performance and personality. My Z06 is quicker than either my 360 or 430 where and is infinitely more livable than the Gallardo.
That said, I will be the first to admit, it isn't Michael Schumacher derived and that may make all the diference depending on where your head is at.
My advice would be go pick up the Z06, break it in well, drive the hell out of it, and if it doesn't do it for you, head back to the Italians.
