Interesting Specs on C6

Noticed a few interesting items while reading all the post-embargo info:

* engine requires less oil....5.5 quarts.

* 6-speed now standard equipment....x-tra cost for automatic.

* hydroformed rails--are they all aluminum?

* 93 octane fuel suggested, not required.

* Increased intake air flow......will aftermarket vendors offer an improvement on this?

What else have you noticed/wondered about?

Is less oil a good thing?

I also read that the C6 is not 100% a bottom feeder with regards to induction. It's supposed to be a 60/40 split.

I guess teh 6speed trannie being a standard is a good thing for me and a bad thing at sametime. I personally prefer an automatic cause of all the city/rush hour driving I do, but was considering a manual anyway I think on my next so I dont know. But it is a goodthing in retrospect to most of my clients prefer 6speed and telling them they now wont have to pay that $915 surcharge for it will be real nice

Most everything I've read about the chassis says hydroformed steel rails:

"The key features of the backbone structure – low weight, high strength via hydroformed steel frame rails, cored composite floors, enclosed center tunnel, rear-mounted transmission and aluminum cockpit structure – enable C6’s top speed, world-class handling, quiet ride and fuel efficiency."

Aluminum for the 2006 Z06.

What I found a welcome surprise on the C6 is oil coolers on the Z51 versions of the transmission and rear axle with both pumps being internal to the assemblies.

These are much needed items for any spirited driving....so I am told

Okay, where is the push button starter? Does it have daytime running lights? Where are the side airbags, door or seat?
I also noticed, no black interior.

Further reading shows:

The optional HUD offers 2 modes, street and track. The track mode has larger tach & speedo, an engine condition gauge, and a real-time accelerometer that samples & displays the maximum "G-force" experienced during a turn. HUD uses LCD pixels to construct the alphanumeric characters and graphics, allowing the HUDmto change size and shape.

Optional sport seats offer side impact air bags, and heated seats will be available for the first time on Corvette.

No black interior That's seems odd.

I am amazed at all the small things that have changed. I get the impression that the C6 is only a C5.5 in appearance only. It is a considerable step forward in a lot of areas. The HID headlights (finally) are about 6 years overdue. The Z51 package is a fantastic addition to the Corvette package. The tranny cooler makes a bunch of us really happy.

The C6 Z06 is going to be a fine, fine automobile. Dammit, now I am already "in the waiting mode" AGAIN.

I think he meant he has not seen any pics of the black interior. The C6 interior choices are:

* Ebony (black)
* Cobalt Red
* Steel Gray
*Cashmere (oak/sand/beige)

Oops, you're always correct Zippy. Ebony it is.
Side air bags are in the Sport Seats, I think.
