Just felt I had to share my babble on C6/Z06 negativity.

Something has really been bothering me about this future Z06 price topic, and I think maybe now I just articulated it to myself, now I share with all.

What is all the complaining about the new C6 Z? The price per dollar? That cannot make sense, because the C6 with a Z/51 will match the current Z in every noticable way, and will run you right around $50k according to what I have seen. So where has the price per performance value changed??????????????????????? Just because it doesn't come with a Z in the code, it doesn't meand that it doesn't offer the same performance bang for the same dollar as the current Z. So what are people complaining about?

If you want the best performance bang for the buck, then get a new C6 for $50k, and get the same thing GM has been giving us since 01, maybe no more, but definitely no less.

So what is the next step for GM? I would agree with them that it is a Viper and GT40 contender. What will it take? Well for sure 500hp and maximum 3100lbs (the easy part since the current Z hits that weight target). What does 500hp cost? $85k on a Viper, $150k on a GT40, and God bless GM if it costs $70k on a Vette, again not to mention at least 300lbs lighter vehicle than the other two.

So many of us in here cannot afford the new Z.... okay. Doesn't mean it deserves to be slammed for not being affordable when they are still giving us the current bang for buck we have now! What do you want, a 450hp Z for $60k? For what? What do you gain? Give the aftermarket six months to a year and for $5k invested in your C6 and you will have 450HP, and $5k left over for some kick ass wheels. If this is what you want, then you can easily do it yourself!

Another point I bet GM noticed with the Z forums and following... Why give only 50hp more in the Z model when simple bolt on's do that for the consumer anyway? Why not let them mod their cars, and give the Z something to stand out, like 100hp more. Seems totally logical to me, but what do I know....

Mike,

It is going to be interesting to see what shakes out on the new Z when it comes out next year. I think that the fact that GM is looking at producing not only the Z, but the "Blue Devil" supercar may keep the Z more affordable than we think.

Based on what is out there now we may be looking at 500hp 2800-3100 lb Z in the $60-$70K range (still a really good value) and then the 650 hp "Blue Devil" in the $100K range.

The good news in all of this is that Vette enthusiasts will have a plethora of choices and ways to go.

They can buy a C6 for around $50K and mod to get to the 500+hp range. You can spend a little more and get the 500hp C6 Z (which is suppose to have a very different look than the C6, at least according to Richard Shearer who spoke at the Fest last year). Or you can go hog wild and play with the big boys and go for the 6 figure "Blue Devil that starts you off right with 650hp.

Choices, choices, choices, life is full of choices...

Mark
