Just took a joyride in a new Z06. I feel inadequate!

A very nice guy at work this morning was kind enough to throw me his keys and let me take it for a spin by myself. I thought he was kidding when he said he just bought a new one. He wasn't too worried as he knows I own an 01 Z06 for awhile, so he understands I know vettes pretty well. After he gave me the keys, I was like a kid in a candy store and bolted outside to his car. I get to the parking lot and there sat a beautiful and stunning silver Z. 3000 miles on the odometer.

I get in and look for a minute to see where to insert the key. Doh! After searching like a fool (so much for knowing vettes!), I find the push start button and the car comes alive.

You've all read after the amazing performance of this car, so I don't need to go into too much detail, but his car flat out HAULS! I took the car up to 120mph+ and did some 60-120mph runs in 2nd to 3rd to feel the slingshot effect. This car just pulls and pulls....very smoothly and with a lot of authority! Also did some 0-70mph in competitive mode, and it got there quick, kicking the tail out a bit! I though my 01 Z was quick, but this thing would charge hard up to the 7000rpm redline and would blow the C5 Z out of the water. Steering response is firm and tight on this bad boy. Clutch is nice and light also. Interior is a step up from the C5's...nice to have the navigation system and not have to hold the traction control button down for 5 seconds to get into competitve mode.

Last week, bjaber gave me a ride in his yellow 06Z, but traffic was heavy on the freeway, so I didn't get to feel the pull of this car pass 100mph. Definitely awesome to actually pilot one of these bad boys myself. I envy all you guys with the new Z. Drove my 01 Z back home afterwards, and although it still felt quick and sounded nice and loud with the B&B Bullets, being down 100rwhp sucked!

Man, what a car....having been in a Ferrari F430 recently, I think this car would walk it in a race. This is the car to beat! Bargain supercar of the decade!

Nah, didn't have my camera on me. It was a random occurance today how things worked out, but I'll see him again soon at the club where I work. He's a regular member there, so I'll bump into him in a few days. I would LOVE for him to throw me the keys to his ride for a day or two!

It just your basic bad ass stock silver C6 Z06....you get the picture. It's official...silver is my favorite color for the new Z.

There will be a few cars at the fest that will make even the new Zs feel inadequate

Nice write up Don.

2mchFun: Your right. However, there's always somebody faster...how fast do you want to go?..how much money do you have?

How many of those few cars at the Fest, arrive on trailers?
How many only go fast in 1,320 feet?
How many can turn left, or right fast?
How many are under mfg warranty if something breaks?
How many have already broken this or that, and what's the next weak link to break? Who pays for that?
How many get 26-29 mpg with air-con on, cruising at 70 mph?
How many are comfortable to ride in for 2,3, or 400 mile days?
Not flaming anybody or any car, just something to think about.

Several actually.
But there is always somebody faster. Like LG says - and everybody who has owned fast cars knows - money buys speed.
