First time I have heard anyone say that. Halltech publically advertises that Katech tests showed a 12 h/p gain and Katech has never disputed this. In fact, Katech specifies the Halltech intake on their engine packages. Have talked to Jason at Katech and they like this unit. Given the prominence of Katech due to their engine building role in the C6.R program, I personally don't think they would lend their support to a non performing product.
Common sense would dictate that once you see the stock air intake and filter and compare it to just about any of the after market units, the after market units offer some improvement. For example, the Killer Bee filter area is less restrictive and approximately 3 times the size of the stock paper filter. I am also using it in conjunction with an Air Charger that I picked up for $25 to provide additional ambient air flow. THe Killer Bee depends on air from the NACA duct. It also meets my concerns re using a high quality product in my $80k car. Some aftermarket intakes look like they were made in an unlighted basement.
That said, the last thing I want to get involved in is yet another silly air intake controversy. This is my 7th Vette, and I have been there and done that.

The above are my opinions based upon my personal research and "that's all I have to say about that."
If you guys want to argue about it, I will sit back and enjoy the recreational reading...
