Looking to buy a new Z06 - questions first.

I'm new to the forum and am looking to purchase a fully loaded new Z06 but had a few questions after test driving one.

Are the seatbacks supposed to have ~35 degrees of play fore and aft? Very weird - its as if the seat back never locks back. It always can be moved forward at least 30 degrees.

The clutch was so SOFT. I have never felt such a soft clutch - and I have owned everything fom an old civic hatch in college to small, mid and large vehicles, all with manual transmissions. Including a C5 vette. Back in the late 90's. What's the deal on that clutch? Any reason why its so soft? or is it just me?

Does anyone else find that the brake and gas pedals are not in the best position in relation to each other? I'm finding that rev matching means slamming on the brakes as well. Great if I'm going all out - but not for just simple aggressive canyon driving. Are the pedals adjustable?

OK, based on my experience on the C5 vette, I have one concern. GM has a habit of producing great engines, but then poorly executes the production. This usually ends up with long blocks having large fluctuations in bolt tension, rotating balances not being properly balanced, and main bearings prematurely failing and seals leaking after 90K or so miles. Usually the rear seal is the first thing that gets noticed. Question: now that people have put some miles on their C6Z's, are people finding that these engines generally hold up better than the previous generation?

How flexible is that rear fascia supposed to be? Not for nothing, it felt quite flimsy and looked like I could push in the fascia about an inch. Waxing that must be interesting.

How much heat do people generally find entering through the tunnel area and pedal box? During the summer months?

It was still a great joy to drive and I'm 99% sure I'm buying one. I've left the vette scene for 7 years and its time to get back in.

Re: Looking to buy a new Z06 - questions first.

Welcome to
Don't have a C6Z, so this is annecdotal ...
Seats ... yes ... they're all that way. They lock forward for access to rear, but don't lock in normal position.
Clutch ... drove a C6Z once and clutch SEEMED softer than my C5Z ... differences in hydraulics assist, I guess ...
Pedals ... assume you're talking rev matching on downshifting ... "heel & toe" ... I find the relationship OK on track ... on hard braking the brake-throttle relationship height wise is about right (ss bl here) tho I might put a wider throttle plate on to make it easier to catch the throttle on the blip.
For road work where you might not be braking as hard, yet downshifting ... the brake might be a bit higher ... don't think they're adjustable.
Engine ... lot's of C5's over 100k ... haven't heard of main seal leaking problems.
C6Z engine, being "hand assembled", is subject to more assembly checks ... would assume torque and tolerances are similarly checked ...
Rear facia ... yes, it flexes ...
Tunnel heat ... an issue ... there's more insulation in one of the option packages i think ... some have applied aftermarket mats ... they'll perhaps weigh in here.
Good luck in your quest ... look forward to hearing what you decide on ...

Re: Looking to buy a new Z06 - questions first.

I thought the seat not locking was odd, as well. It hasn't ever moved while I have been driving.

Haven't had any problems with the pedal position. Just came from a BMW, and the pedals were off in the BMW IMO.

Yes, the rear fascia moves considerably when waxing. The Zaino went on just fine, though.

Definitely some heat issues. The center console gets a bit toasty. Haven't had the car in the summer, yet.

Good luck!
