Michelin Tires for C5 & C6 Coming Soon
FYI:
A contact from Michelin tire informed me they will release replacement tires for C5 and C6 Corvettes on August 1, 2008. Z06 tires will be available at a later date.
Thanks for the update, Tony. After reading about shortages in supply for us by GY, I'm thinking of ordering a replacement set when available just so I have them when needed. This iinfo from Michelin gives additional insurance.

The new Bridgestones are run flats and in stock Z06 sizes. I had good luck with Bridgestone Pole Positions on my old S4 so I would have no problem putting them on the Z.
I was wrong in my earlier post. Michelin will not only offer the PS2 tire in Corvette sizes, but they will also have a new run-flat version of the PS2- known as the PS2 ZP. Looks like the ZP will be the tire that will make its way on to the ZR1.

I have a 07 Z06 and replaced my original front GYs with Michelin PS2 ZPs. ZP stands for zero pressure - so they ARE run flats. They are much quieter than GYs and handle every bit as good. I haven't had any wet weather yet here so don't know about wet yet.
I really do not think that the GY runflats are that bad either, and yes, I have seen a racetrack or two - from inside the car. The reason why I am not that excited about them is that there are some handling/ride compromises with the runflats, it only stands to reason. Recently, when my wife got a nail in one of her tires on her '08 coupe, she had to go to FOUR places (including a chevy dealer and a GY store) before she finally found someone who could fix it. On top of that, the fine print for these tires says that if you do get a puncture, it may not be salvagable if you drive anywhere the distance you can "safely" drive on them. So, if you are on the highway, and you have to go to a bunch of places before you can even find a shop who can repair your tire, you might lose the tire anyway.
Given the above, when my GYs wear out, I may well consider going to a non run flat tire for a little better handling and ride. I always carried a small air pump and repair kit in my '02 Z, and I can in this one too.

Buy a NAPA Balkamp Vulcanizing Plug Kit #710-1028. You can many times repair the tire on the car. You will still need air.
I am not a fan of run flatseither but they do have excellent dry traction and i have had no issues with them in the wet.
