Has anyone tracked their Z at MAM in western Iowa at Pacific Jxn? I have heard great things about the track-was recommended by Doug Rippie Motorsports. Mentioned how the shoulders were grass with no concrete embankments, and for $100, you can run for 15'-20' sessions all day. I will look at taking the mandatory orientation class next summer.

I've run MAM many times. The track is in great shape and has many combination corners that keep things busy in a good way. Lots of runoff in most areas and a nice long straight to exercise the motor. The roads into the track are pretty rough and the paddock needs to be resurfaced. MAM is a great bargain track day.

I have to attend an orientation session for $175, then it appears I can race any friday, all day long for $100. Sound correct? How fast can you get on the straights-140ish? Were you ever concerned about racing with others on the track at the same time? I plan on putting on the DRM bilsteins this winter, and new rear rubber-looking at the Bridgestone Pole positions. I have lots of family in Omaha and Lincoln, so the location is perfect for me-4 hour drive. Thanks for the feedback.

Sounds about right for the orientation and fast Friday fees. Once you have done the orientation, you are good to go for Friday fun. The orientation is the first Friday of each month as I recall. 140 on the main straight in a Z06 is about right. Depends on your corner exit speed. My best lap time in a near stock C6 Z06 (had DRM shocks and Johnny O'Connel swaybars) on street tires was 1:43.1. Did a 1:38.1 this year with aero mods, coilovers, bushings, and swaybars. Motor still stock.

Silly question, but since this will be my first tracking session, what gears do you typically race in? 2nd, 3rd, and 4th? I see they have a few 180 degrees turns at MAM.

Mostly 3rd and 4th in a C6 Z06. You can use 2nd on the last corner before the straight. With a C5 Z06 it would be 3rd, 4th, and 5th because of the shorter gearing.

Lawdogg, have you ever spun off? Do you drive in Competition mode, or leave the stability control fully functioning?

Unless you intend to do wheel to wheel racing in the future, run in comp mode. On the C6z06 it isn't intrusive like it was in the C5. If you are smooth it shouldn't intervene.
