My C6 driving experience...

I was so excited to get behind the wheel of this car. I knew the dealership had two on the lot since my salesman called me as the carrier pulled up to the door. I immediately drove to the dealership to catch a glimpse. I don’t know why since I’ve seen many of them in person already. They had already unloaded them from the carrier. There they sat, in the back row of the dealership. They were still covered in shrink wrap and protective coverings.

The next day, I heard from a buddy that he saw one on the road near my dealership so I jumped back in my car and headed up, thinking they had them prepped and ready to roll. I walk into the show room and the owner greets me. I tell him “Let’s go for a ride in a C6”. He replies, I’ll get you the keys and you can go for a spin. He tells one of the salesmen to go and get the car. As I turn and walk away, I hear Marty tell his sales staff “Now understand, we don’t just let anyone drive these new Corvettes. This Gentleman has two on order and he can drive one any time”. I turned and smiled and said “It might be three if they build the Blue Devil in 2007”. Haha

Okay, down to business.

Ergonomics: I think the layout and feel of the interior is well thought out. The controls are easy to see and reach. The seating is quite different then my Z06. It feels as if you sit higher in this car. Although it felt a little different, it didn’t take long for me to feel comfortable. The heads up display has changed colors. It is easy to read and I loved playing with the lateral g meter. The stereo sounded incredible. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard an OEM system that sounded that good. Btw, it didn’t have the GPS but did have XM radio. The tuner and volume controls on the stereo will take some getting used to because of their orientation relative to the display. One tends to want to turn the tuner knob when searching for the volume control.

Driving the car: The first thing I noticed is the abundance of torque. Keep in mind, this car does not have the Z51 package and even without the revised ratio transmission, I noticed the early onset of torque. This adds even more delight to driving. The shifter was smooth and the car seemed so tight. I took her on the highway where there is excessive cupping. This car tracked straight had has little “darting”. Now, I did get into the throttle a bit. I didn’t want to hit it too hard since it is in break in. The car pulls very strong but doesn’t quite have the snap of my Z. Overall I was very impressed with the way the car runs and handles. I’m looking forward to getting mine and trying out the Z51 package.

The keyless entry and start button are just something to make you smile. It’s like icing on the cake.

Oh, I almost forgot. The heads up display has 3 presets; Track 1, Track 2 and Street; just more fun stuff to make us smile.

I can't wait. I'm tired of not having my Z06. I need a Vette back in my life.

Kevin just called. My car is 309th in line. Said it'll hit production this Friday or next Tuesday. Looks like I'm going to be making an 8 hour road trip to BG in the near future.

Awesome. These are the types of write ups we need. From someone who owned a Z06. The reaction of the stock C5 coupe owners won't help me much in understanding the reality of the C6.

Keep us posted.

Good evaluation, Norm.

I'm staying overnight in Anderson, Indiana right now and using the hotel's hi-speed net accsss.

I have about 300 miles on my car, and love every minute of time behind the wheel.

I'll post an overview on a separate topic.

Tomorrow morning we head to BG for the 10th anniversary celebration.

Can't wait till I get the 500 mile breakin completed.

Zippy
