Ok, here is the situation. I am having a soul-searching moment. I have dibs on a 08 Z06. I am literally at the "pull-the-trigger" moment. Unfortunately, I tend to have buyers remorse for any purchase over say....$1000.00 haha.
For a bit of history, I bought a 2001 Z06 (my 2nd vette, and 2nd C5) when they first hit the street, and when I eventually sold it I felt like I had to put my dog down. I never had an oil consumption problem with it, and it was very reliable. When I sold it in 2006, it had 28000 miles on it. I later found out it was wrecked shortly after the sale, and I literally felt like I should have saved her life by hanging on to it.
Here we are 7 years removed from my 2001 Z06 purchase going through the motions again. I never regretted my 01 purchase, but then again this new one is 27K more than I paid for the first one. (Please refer to paragraph 1.)
I guess the question here is, after owning one for a while, is the buyers remorse greater with the price, or does it fade when you drive it? I can swim...I guess I just need to be pushed in.
The money is not the problem per se. However, I think 50K for a car is a lot. I guess in a way, I am also asking....is it worth it? For the 01 Z, it was only 7K over the standard vette, but I feel like I literally got 50% more car as a total package...not just the 35-50HP. This new thing, is "ahem" 20K over a base vette.
I know I am asking a partisan crowd...but I just need to hear it.
JUMP...feet first or do a flip, it doesn't matter. Sounds like you just need a little help to take the leap. 505hp, hell it will take a week or more to wipe that smiling Bob grin off your face not to mention the...
I got an 07 in the Spring. Traded my 03 and added enough cash that I should have buyer's remorse, but every time I feel it coming on, I drive the car and it magically goes away
If you want it, then get it. Money is the means, and not the end..... IT may make the world go 'round, but surely you will enjoy the world that much more enjoying the things you have so rightfully worked hard to achieve.
NOw, hold this anvil as I push you in the water!!!
GO FOR IT!!!!!

I hear ya bro - it is a lot of cash for a car . ..but...
Life is short, and you only get one chance at it.
If you can swing it financially...GO FOR IT !

And... since I don't have a C6 Z06, can't really answer your direct question. But, I have been known to jump into the deep end (bought 02 Z06... turned it into a racecar... replaced daily driver with 06 CTS-V... replaced F350 tow vehicle with 07 Four Winds RV) and I've never once regretted these decisions.
Your not just paying the 20K premium for the extra 100HP. The car has been refined a bit from the C5Z, a little nicer to take on a trip IMO. It also shows when you are driving the piss out of it.
It is expensive, but for me it is reassuring to know that for 200K I can't buy a street car that will be any faster.
I felt a lot like you - concern at spending a lot of money on things, especially nonessential things. Let's be honest there is no rational, economic reason to buy a car like this. I have a hard time forking 80K for anything other than an investment. However why was I investing my money? The answer was to do things I enjoy, or get things I enjoy. I bought my car last August and have over 10,000 miles on it, and I don't have any regrets about buying it.
I was in a position to pay cash for it. I certainly wouldn't finance a toy.
