I personally don't like it too loud & rumbly... I don't think it matched the sleekness of the car. Like Lambo's... you never here them popping all loud like a Harley... do you? There's a certain level of class this car portrays... sleek, fine art, with balls of steel! I love the mild to wild switch... I have it hooked up to Homelink... I just want it louder when it's open. I'm going to put high flow cats, & headers (for performance anyway) and then do that cheap mod (cutting open the stock exhaust and clamping the straight pipe) - that would be perfect for me... I heard it's 40-50% louder than stock when they are open, and only 5-10% louder than stock when they are closed... now I'm just trying to find a shop that will do it...
Yeah your right, it doesnt match the 427, 7.0L , I could of swore this was a ture american muscle car ..guess everyone who's heard it must be wrong, cause not one person has said it takes away from the sleekness or said it's not the meanest sounding car they've ever heard..I'd cut up your stock exhaust seems like a much easier option, or maybe you could even swap it out for an XLR exhaust . Oh and no harley i've ever heard even comes close to the deep throaty sound it has now..I'd belive you if i hadnt done the stock exhaust before this. oh and if your looking for performance your going to be very dissapointed with spending 2k on headers. Good luck cutting corners on a 75k car.. I'll continue to enjoy mine every time step on it..

Guy, Everyone is entitled to there opinion... you don't have to be a sarcastic d*ckhead about it. I'm not disputing the "mean" sound of your car... I'm sure it sounds brutal... I personally don't like the "popping" noise that I have heard from set-ups like you described...
I'm opening up the exhaust to make the sound that I already think is close to perfect (stock > open valves) sound 40-50% louder. It's not "cutting corners" - I almost bought the Billy Boat Fusion (but it's not enough of a change for the $1500 difference) and the Corsa I just don't like at all. Sound's like louder rice burner to me. Borla just doesn't do it either...
Your the ONLY person that has ever said headers isn't worth the $ on a Z06. Which btw, is a 15-20hp gain for $1500, not $2k. If money was NO object at all, I wouldn't be driving a Z06 at all... it would be a Lambo.
So yeah, I would rather put the $2500 it would cost for custom exhaust / x-pipe somewhere else.
I just think it's smarter to do things the way I do them. I'm concerned with what I want -- not anyone else.
ie; I didn't get the 2LZ, I got the 1LZ with no navigation. (thats about $4750 less than a 2LZ with Nav) I knew I wasn't going to keep the factory stereo, and the only other thing I cared about in the $3k+ 2LZ package was the universal home remote. So I added a Refurbished Pioneer Avic Z2 Nav HU, and bought the Homelink Visor from GM. Spent $1050 for those two items. So if that's cutting corners, then I'm happy to say I cut corners. lol...
And I guarantee my stereo sounds better than yours, and to most people, so will my exhaust.
Your the ONLY person that has ever said headers isn't worth the $ on a Z06.
No, he is not the only person to ever say that. I have seen 3 different sets of headers installed on a C6 Z with baseline dynos, after-install dyno's and after tune dyno's and I don't think headers are worth the money on a C6Z.
Just wanted to clarify that he isn't alone in his opinion.
I'm gonna take the middle ground on this one. If you are going to do heads/cam or just a cam then the headers are a good mod. If you are doing only bolt ons, then they aren't worth the money. On two cars with tunes and bolt ons, LG headers added a max of 2 rwhp at peak, and 14 ft lbs of mid range torque, American Racing headers added 4 rwhp and 12 ft lbs of mid range torque. Kinda disappointing in the $/HP ratio to me.

You guys need to do some more research before blabbing...
BREATHLESS PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS:
"Through Our Endless Effort and Continuous Testing of Other Brands of Headers We Came Up With Some Changes That We Felt Necessary... This Custom Header Has a Step Design, which starts at 1.3/4 and gets larger to 1.7/8 to Produce Increased Velocity Which in Turn Produces Higher and flatter Torque Figures throughout the rpm range. We also incorporated a velocity tip inside the collector to increase air speed. Collectors are 3'' Instead of 2 1/2" - We Fully Jet Coat Our Headers Inside and Out.
Dyno results have shown between 19 to 36 HP gains.
There were several tests. One test with headers without Cats, then another without Cats and Corsa Indy exhaust on a 02
Next tests were done on Les's car, which is posted on Z06vette.com, which it was just the header.
We have been using them in our Pro Mod and Pro Street cars.
I will read you an article in Circle Track Mag Jan 2002 Exhaustive Choices By Jim McFarland.
Tuning Straight vs. Stepped Headers Primary Pipes
Note. Pressure excursions in header primary pipe may be compared to simple harmonic motion of spring/weight system. Just as weight oscillates up and down with amplitude and frequency related to specific weight and spring constant, pressure waves transverse pipes in a similar fashion. Since wave velocity is a function of pipe I.D a change in diameter affects the amplitude and frequency of wave movement similar to change in spring/weight values. Since peak torque9volumetric efficiency) is associated with specific exhaust gas flow rates, the sizing of the primary pipe diameter affects the wave speed9engine RPM0 at which these critical or "mean Flow" velocities. Stated another way, the sizing of the primary pipe can be used as a tool to selectively influence where in the rpm range torque boosts are placed or influenced. Step headers are used to help increase the engine's effective torque range.
This is the reason we are the only header manufacture to develop HP and Torque in the low to mid range and keep it all the way up on a stock engine.
We will continue to show dyno results emphasizing the change in HP and Torque in all rpm ranges. We are the only manufacture to use the step design, Velocity tips inside the collector, 3'' collectors and a removable collector for easy service work of the clutch or engine.

Sorry JR, the only ones making claims of gains that large are folks trying to sell you the headers. I, along with Mike and AL-X aren't trying to sell you anything, just reporting the truth. Gains bigger than what we saw are from adding headers AND A TUNE, then claiming the gain was from the headers. Once you tune the car and get the A/F where it should be for max power, THEN add headers, their true gains will be small.
You guys need to do some more research before blabbing...
Not sure you would consider it "blabbing" if you witness the results first hand.
As 6speeder indicates in his post, sometimes the reported results are a little confusing when a 'tune' is involved. A good tune itself is certainly worth quite a few ponies on the C6Z and when combined with a header install, it can give the appearance the the headers were the reason for the gain. I watched this personally when 3 different sets of headers were installed on the same car....[baseline dyno, install followed by dyno, tune followed by dyno, and then finally tune and dyno with no headers (headers were ARH, LG and DynoMaxx)] with results at each stage being watched closely. Not sure a person can witness "research" any better than that.
I wondered at first why the header gains were substantially less on the C6Z than they were on the C5Z.....until I saw the difference between the stock exhaust manifolds on both models. GM made some real improvement with the exhaust manifold on the C6Z model and 'exhaust outflow' is far better than the C5Z.
If someone mods somewhat heavily (goes into the engine with cam, h/c, etc) or adds an FI then a good set of headers should make a reasonable and cost efficient improvement to that set-up.
Mike
btw JR, the BPP quote you copied in your post is from their site but it is from their section "97-04 Corvette ---exhaust". This is for the C5Z, not the C6Z. Then the exact same quote (including the reference to "Les's car") is used in their C6 section, subheading Exhausts. I think someone got lazy and just put the same advertising copy in their new C6 section.
How's that for research

Like he says above, we're not trying to sell you anything.
If you look at our join dates and our activity, we're not new to the Corvette scene, either.
Here's a link to a post where a guy cuts open the Z06 muffler, removes the glass packing and with clamps turns the loud path into a straight pipe, no muffler effect. He says it makes the quiet side about 10% louder and the loud path about 50% louder.
I haven't done it.... yet. Mine is pretty loud already with the long tubes and gutted cats.
How much louder is the LT headers and the gutted cats? (gutted cats are not legal, do you get stopped a lot? is it that much louder?)
I almost bought BB Fusion today, but stopped b/c I remembered these answers regarding the headers... but you dont get any additional performance I'm told... so its a lot of $ for just a small difference in sound, if thats the case...

Well i don't know where your buying your headers at (my guess is home depot), but if you want real ones your going to spend 2,000k with cats, now if you don't want cats, than maybe you can save some money which sounds like you'll do that, since your cheap..I have spent the money and now have mine all set up and let me tell you, you don't know anything, you act like i havent had my stock at one point, myself, unlike you, have done the mods already, a killer bee air intake, LT headers, Borla S and without a tune it wasn't much of a gain at all (but im sure you know more than my car), now with a full dyno tune its pushing 500hp at the rear wheels, but I'm not done yet, i am getting a stage 2 cam installed next week and will be over 530hp at the rear wheels. so anytime you want to bring your gutted cats, gutted mufflers, and taped on home link with your aftermarket sweet radio with a Tom Tom glued on to it, let me know how my plate looks, oh and wear ear plugs i wouldn't want to damage your sensitive ears. thanks..

A) Tom Tom? lol. You cannot possibly compare your POS GM Navigation to a Pioneer Avic Z2. If you are, your even more clueless than I thought you were before.
B) After much research, I bought the BB Fusion / X-Pipe today... found out the mod wasn't the sound I wanted.
C) Does Home Depot really sell headers? Is that where you work your 2nd job so you can afford your gas for your fast loud car? Thats was a just a dumb comment... which fits the rest of your character from your previous posts. Didn't YOU tell me that headers were not worth the $? (but you put LT's on anyway?)
D) I bought the homelink from GM. Where do you get "taped on" from? Pure stupidity.
-- You just sound like a 28 yr. old child, you can go make your car as loud as you want... like I said once before, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I don't care what you spend on your loud, fast car, nor does anyone else here. So go brag to some kid who would be impressed with that. You sound like an ignorant bum that just won some money on a scratch off ticket.
"Cheap" people buy $71k cars, $4k in mods, and $6k stereo systems?
I will not stoop to your level, I'll hurt my back trying to... so here's the deal. You go drive your loud fast car and be safe. I'm done speaking with you. Your not in my class.

You're right your not in my class..I've made more money at 28 then you'll probably every make, and no, its not from a lotto ticket, but from a great job and a real good business, so don't break your back old man trying to reach to my level. Also if you read my messages you'd see i was being sarcastic in just about everything you wrote because you seem to have it all figured out, if you remember the post was about exhaust options, but you turned it into, gutting cats and cutting up the stock mufflers, when they make plenty of professional aftermarket mufflers specifically for the Z06. I posted the way i did mine and you shot it down (without hearing it) like saying it sounded like a Harley. Well old man, sounds to me like you bought an awesome radio too, I'm sure your Neil diamond sounds awesome, who needs an exhaust, when you have that.. later for good, silver dick

Last year (2007) I went to Mid America's Summer Fest and I got to hear alot of different exhaust systems as the cars drove into the event. A guy driving a 2006 Z06 came driving in and I fell in love with the sound of his Z06 exhaust. I followed that guy around to the parking area so that I could ask him what exhaust he had on his Z06. Much to my surprise the guy told me it was the Borla Stinger. I would have never guessed that in a million years.
