I'm on the prowl for a Z06. I've been lurking around here for a while and have questions about about the flying roofs and needle bearings. Have these issues been resolved or are there recalls on these items, or only TSBs if these situations occur on your vehicle? I know warranty will cover these items, but I'd like to have the issues resolved before they become problems.
I did drive an '08, but not on the freeway, it didn't seem to have the road noise the '07's that I drove. Did Chevy do any sound deadening in the trunk area in the '08s? Or maybe it's just as noisy on the freeway.
Have there been any significant improvements on the '08s to justify the extra cost for '08? I don't plan on doing any track time in it, I just want something that hauls ass and looks the part, but at the same time I want something that is comfortable on a long ride.
I had been looking for a Pantera for the last year and a half, I drove a few, but no real seat time. I did finally spend about 45 minutes on the street with traffic and on the freeway. Man, what an uncomfortable car! There's no way I could do a 3 - 4 hour trip to Vegas in that thing - what's left? A Corvette ... with a 500 hp engine ... with a warranty!
By the way, this forum is the most informative than the other Vette forums - if a question is asked, no matter how elementary, it gets answered without sarcasm and insults!
The roof issue predominantly affected '06 cars. The rocker arm needle bearing issue appears to be affecting mainly '07 cars manufactured between Jan and Jun of that year. However, that is based on a very small sample size and the actual extent of the issue is unknown. Both of these issues are covered by TSB's.
A 'recall' per se is usually only issued for safety related defects and can be independently conducted by a manufacturer or ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The '08 cars have a redesigned transmission as well as an updated (stronger) rear differential as well as an updated, redesigned steering rack which affords lighter, more precise, steering. Other changes include cosmetic interior design changes along with an additional interior option: 3LZ.
A lot of significant changes to the '08's as mentioned earlier. I have an '08 - deals are great on these right now and no significant changes to the '09 Z's - just go for it!

I don't think you can get a more comfortable high performance GT road car. Even the suspension gives you a great ride on good roads.
I have a 2005 coupe with all the goodies, and the seats are heated with full power adjust, adjustable lumbar support, adjustable side bolsters, side airbags, and they're heated.
I got my '06 Z06 with everything on it as well, but the first thing my wife complained about was the lack of power and lumbar support in her passenger seat. To save weight the General left out the lumbar and side bolster bladders on the driver's side (still have full electric adjustment, heat, and airbags). The only thing my wife's seat has is that it's heated and has the airbags - it's manual adjust, and no lumbar/side bolster adjustment.
I got some seats out of an '07 C6 and am swapping the seat covers and putting them in. I've already done my side so it now has the lumbar/side bolster adjustment, and later this week I'll swap out my wife's seat for the full power everything seat - that will keep her a lot happier!!!
I find the seats very comfortable and have done a 14 hour day of driving. Being able to tilt the seat bottom or buzz it back and forth just a little bit makes a lot of difference on a long drive. The heat and the adjustable lumbar support are great - I don't know why they didn't offer full power everything seats on the Z06 as an option (maybe they do now?) but I can drive forever in these seats.
I also recommend the telescoping steering column. On a long trip a little adjustment now and then can make a big difference in comfort.
You can get some real exotic cars that are fairly comfortable, and you can get a BMW, MB, or P-car that will offer outstanding comfort on long road trips, but like you said, for the money you can't beat a 505hp Corvette.
Go for it!!! Get any year you find at a good deal with the stuff you want and you won't be disappointed!!!!!
Welcome to the site. I don't think you can go wrong with any C6 Z06. Look for the best deal you can find and go for it. All I recommend you do is check TSBs for the car and get maintenance records for it. Good luck.
Welcome to
I *think* the flying roof issue is under control ...
It *appears* that the needle bearing issue is spotty now (more prevalent in '07).
Here's a read ... LS7 Rocker Arms - Issue??
Seems that the General has gone back and forth on magnetic drain plugs ... some series builds have them; some don't ... highly recommended if the one you buy doesn't have them.

I have a 2008 and 2006 Z06 and they both drive the same. The 2006 has a few less options then the 2008, such as no steering wheel controls and lack of lumbar on the seats. Going down the road though it is hard to tell the difference.
As for sound deadening, does anyone know if they did something different with insulation in the later model Z06's?
