I am moving from a C5 Z to a C6 and really can't get over that the hardtop wasn't continued. I really liked it and hope that the C6 Z's glass doesn't cook me or distort the rear view.
Congrats on your new car!!

For a 2009, you got a great price, esp in CA! Did you get a new color for 2009 models only? If not, did you consider getting a leftover 2008 earlier this month while the 48 month, 0% APR financing was available from GMAC? I think you could of got close to the same deep discount AND 0% from the Chevy dealers in Northern CA before GM introduced the "employee pricing" promotion and eliminated the 0% deal. Just curious . . .
I'd file a warranty claim on the rear hatch glass if you don't notice the same "distortion" on any other C6s your dealer's lot. However, if other cars exhibit the same, and the distortion really does not seriously impair your rear vision, I don't think you have a legitimate gripe. Should be easy to verify one way or the other.
We got 4.7% financing from the dealer and they just plain knocked approx $12K off the price with no rebates, no other promotion.
We did look at 2008's but all the various dealers stock seem very lot weary, and picked over, and weather beaten.
One nice showroom 2008 427 SE was discounted to $80k but we got our new loaded 2009 z for $68K ( both + t & L) so that tipped the scales in favor of the 09.
Two tone interiors should be prohibited West of the Rockies according to my daughter and wife who are half my age, so that left 90% of the '08s out too.
We ordered it in Atomic Orange w/ebony interior and didn't want to gamble on an unseen color, plus every other car we own,, and seems every car in So Calif is either black or some sort of shade of silver/grey.
Would have rather had the Crystal Red, and damn if we know why GM doesnt offer it on the Z.
It's THE color for my Harley Age generation.
But can't be giving the customers what they want now can they?
It turned Harley around,, but Chevy,, ahh forget that take.
The rear window is pretty bad. Perhaps even a safety issue it's so badly distorted.
Looking back through it is like looking into the fun house mirrors.
Surprised it made it through production.
Not bi-focals, but maybe like quadra-focals.
We did see the spider pattern wheel on another '09 and it has excellent depth and looks far better in person than the pics.
But, tribal flames & spider/skull patterns are trendy and fading from style here in So Cali.
The new 2009 dbbl/twin clutch plate operation (as described by our dealer) is awesome compaired to our friends '07 clutches.
The dealer mentioned 9 improvements over '08, but I can only remember 3.
The standard sound insulation pkg excellent. The Bose' sound system is kinda average sounding but still very good.
Overall, quite the performer.
Tomorrow the clear bra, cover it, put it in the garage, and never drive it again.
In 30 years you'll all see my kids selling it on Barrett Jackson with extreme low miles in showroom condition, brutally bone stock.

Please explain . . . are you saying most of the 08s in your area had two tone interiors? Personally, because I wanted (and got) a Red Z, I almost drove to a far away dealer in Sacramento to snag a Victory Red with Ebony interior with red accents, but with the high cost of gas I decided on a monotone black. I discovered a couple of others with the two tone combo closer to home, but by then I was committed at another dealer. I really like the red accent black interior on the VR, but probably wouldn't look as nice on most of the other exterior colors.
I have a very short list of complaints of my 08 z and the rear window distortion is one of them. It's a simple explanation, the glass is standard tempered glass and it is curved and you are looking at it through an extreme angle. I would think Ferrari would not have this problem, but then again, it would cost 3x as much. I think you'll have to live with it, but I'd look at another C6 to be sure.
Other complaints:
FOB too easy to hit a button in your pocket...Never happens with my other car fobs.
Brakes get pad residue on them easily - seems to come off when you track it, but it easily returns. Don't know if this is really a problem or just a symptom of HP brakes.
Transmission grinds a touch into 2nd and 3rd when not warm - still on original fluid, will change soon, and I never drive my car hard when not warm so it's just annoying not detrimental.
Headlights set to auto when car is turned off, so every time I start my car in the garage, the headlights turn on. This will wear them out needlessly. The headlight controls are quite aukward for me to use and poorly described in the book.
The rear cargo boxes lids don't seem to snap closed correctly.
My oil canister for the dry sump rattled until replaced under warranty at 1500 easy miles.
Middle arm rest cargo box heats up a lot.
The seat, while incredibly comfy and surprisingly supportive at G's, seems to not engulf my butt the way I want. I feel like I'm "on" the seat, not "in" it, but really only when I think about it, not when I'm driving. Make what you will of that.
......
OK, so that's about it at 5k miles. The pluses are way too many to mention. The most important surprises to me are:
fit and finish is awesome for a vette and there are virtually NO RATTLES at 5K miles on local roads which are literally barely paved in spots.
Tracking the car I think I'm so far from the car's limit after 1 go round that I still don't know if the car over or understeers. Seems nuetral which I love. It is a track superstar.
..
In conclusion, the faults are very minor and I can say compared to my wife's new 328xi (no coolant temp readout, window finger controls by the front bumper, too many beeps and whistles) the nuisances are minimal wrt other new cars I've been in.
Oh, and it's a super-car. The type of car Jeremy on top gear said "you are always expecting something to break in"...He couldn't be more wrong with this car. You get in, you go, you pass everything, you get out. Repeat.
are you really gonna put it in the garage and never drive it ?
Rarely drive it.
We met an old jasper in Las Vegas than was selling a 1964 409 Chevy with 126 miles on it.
Immaculate would be a new defination of understatement.
Even the orig glass bottle with blue fluid on the wheel well.
Garaged most it's entire life.
I understood his twisted philosopy.
But the wife loves the car,, and I think I'll have a tough time pulling it off, and she doesnt listen to a thing I say.
Damn she looks so hot driving it.
"We paid for it, we're driving it".
Nice it's a 'Vette made in America.
Wife is Swiss and might be harder getting spare parts for her.
