Painted Roof Adhesive Separation

That's what my service invoice states. Monday night I noticed a popping sound on my roof. It sounded like someone was tapping on my roof. I took it to the dealer Tuesday morning. They said the right rear of the roof was separating. It did no fly off. Because of this forum, I was ware of what was happening. Classic Chevrolet has sold over 50 '06 Z06s at MSRP. I was # 45. I got it May 9 & have 5,400 miles on it. It has been great. No problems until now. They said this is a first for them. The roof was secured & they ordered me a new roof. It is not making noise.

Anyone else had this problem?

GM recalled just about every C6 (Z06 too) for that issue.

That's just GM being their usual slow. If you call your dealer and tell them your VIN, they'll check if there are any outstanding campaigns (recalls) on it. That's how I found out.

Roof Problems!!

My VIN # is in the recall sequence but I haven't had any problems. The car has 5000 mi. I took the car in for another problem and they said they applied adhesive and ordered me a new roof. Are all roofs in the recall list have to be replaced even if theirs no problem? Is it just a matter of time with these cars that a problem will occur?

Problems or no problems... a recall means a recall and you should get the issue taken care of. The roof doesn't necessarily need to be "replaced" unless it has already come off or is separating and has flexed (from the wind) past the point of elastic deformation. In the simplest scenario, new adhesive is applied and bolts are replaced (although I'm not sure where the bolts are as I left the car with them and didn't actually watch the tech).

Just talked to the service and parts department where I bought my 06Z06 last September.

The recall was supposedly sent out on June 23, 2006. The number for this recall is 05112.

The fix involves certain VIN numbers. Suggest you contact your Chevy dealer to see if your Corvette is affected.

The special bolt involved is P.N. 11561612. A special adhesive may or may not be used depending on the Corvette technician doing your fix.

Hope this helps, and BTW, I have not received any recall on my car from GM as of 8-3-06.

I heard the same tapping/cracking noises, I brought it in to John Jochem Chevy. The said my vin did not fall into the "campaine", (vs. recall), range of numbers, I told for what I paid for the car I want it replaced.

They tested it and took the roof in for repair, I have the other roof which is neat to use anyway.

Good Luck and hopefully they'll get us going.

PS they replaced my ashtray and bezel as well.
